Onward Christian Ingrates - Christian rock band sues school

It seems the professional religious victims have latched onto a local Christian rock band, appropriately named Pawn. They are now suing a public school that would not allow them to put on a concert.

5. The article got it right.... They can give a SECULAR performance

But songs about God are not secular... even if they don't mention GOd in between songs.

And demand that it be played at the next school assembly, too. Otherwise, the Stones' free-speech rights are being ignored.

8. Oh for god's sake, their rights weren't infringed upon.

After discussing the matter with its attorneys, the school board backed Ms. Gernot's decision and offered to allow the band to play after school hours at an event sponsored by local businesses.

So, they could have played, they just wanted to get some publicity. Isn't that a Christian thing to do?


And unless they had signed something guaranteeing that no religious content, no god, no jesus, no bible, no nothing, would be included in their performance, then I'd say the school did the right thing. It was during school hours. There should not be any religion affiliated activities during school hours. Period.

And if they weren't planning on including any religious content in their performance, then they weren't discriminated against on religious grounds. They just weren't allowed to play, and last time I checked, schools get to decide who performs on campus during school hours.

9. Let 'Em Play...

By raising an issue, now the wingnuts have another "cause" to champion...playing the "persecution" card again. If people ignored it and let this little band put on its show for its little coven of groupies they'd stay in oblivion and not become fodder for O'Reilly and Christian Media.

High school kids are sophisticated enough to know the real music from the fabricated stuff. This type of stuff puts pressure on lots of moderates and liberals on school boards who are derailed from important issues like funding schools and helping students grow and learn to religious wingnut sideshows that only end up with the "libruls" looking bad.

My issue is more with the parallel universe the fundies have created that indoctrinate children into an almost zombie-like (some will say abused) life that creates a lot of problems when they enter or have to encounter the "real world".

Hmm, those events could get rather long, if they were forced to schedule every band that wanted to play.

Now, does every community member have a free-speech right to speak at every school assembly?
