I was looking through todays edition of the Irish Independent (the largest 'serious newspaper' in the Republic of Ireland). Not sure of an online link, as I was reading it on pressdisplay.com. But in their world news section, they have an article on Gannon, that I've transcribed in full below:
Bad Time to be a Hack in America
New York Times reporter Judith Miller and Time's Matthew Cooper have been held in contempt of court for refusing to divulge their source in a controversial Iraq story and face two years in jail. The court case has been supported by the Bush Administration.
Compare that to the current case involving 'Jeff Gannon'. 'Gannon' was a mysterious newsman who suddenly appeared at White House press briefings. He astonished other journalists, who had never heard of him or his news organization, Talon news, by consistently asking White House spokespeople remarkably soft questions that they were able to answer with uncharacteristic elegance.
It turns out that Gannon's real name is James Guckert and he is a former $200 an hour male escort. Talon news was a shell company set up by a leading Republican to ask questions the Administration wanted to answer. Why isn't this story getting more mileage?
