C-SPAN
It is amazing to me that Ann Coulter can get a spot on C-SPAN. Just about all(if not all) of her books have been proven to be false. She makes completely off the wall statements. Maybe liberals should protest and try to force C-SPAN to uninvite her. Has Jim Hightower ever been on C-SPAN.

1. A better way...
Is for us to suggest the people we would want to see. C-SPAN to my mind would not ban anyone just because one side is outraged. Au contraire!

I believe C-SPAN is committed to being fair. I think Hightower has been on. Surely Molly Ivins has been on. Chomsky, Chalmers Johnson, many other progressives. I don't think being negative will help here.

2. I thought Brian Lamb was sucking up to her, too
What's his political leaning? Maybe she only got on because he in particular in sympathetic to her. Don't know about Hightower, but they've had plenty of other good progressives on (Krugman, Ivins, Jon Stewart, Sy Hersh, Chomsky).

3. Lamb is scrupulously neutral.
Some disagree with that, but I've watched the Journal for many years. It does even out.

5. C-Span is sold out
Like I said the other day, they keep bringing these people on like Coulter, but they wouldn't put Michael Ruppert up there if someone paid them to.

They never hit on the peak oil issue because I guess that might let people know what's "really" guiding our foreign policy right now.

9. But he did it with an air of neutrality.
A camera in the voting booth would have disclosed nary a physical reaction from the Lambster.

11. Your C-SPAN Must Be Different Than Mine
I can't recall the last time I've seen any of these people on WJ:

Mollie Ivins
Joe Connason
Jim Hightower
Gene Lyons
Sid Blumenthal

Then look back in the past six months to see

Ralph Reed
Brent Bozell
Howie Carr
Christopher Hitchins
Drudge

Now let's see how balanced Mr. Facist Friday is. He always has and is a corporate media shill, since he makes a very nice buck from the cable companies that keep his treehouse funded.

Not on the journal but giving a talk, They showed it twice. Can't say about those others. Would you bet they weren't? They have all been on at some time.

Who showed the entire protest march during the GOP convention? And the other marches.

They had John Perkins on last week: "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man." They showed Franken taking down O'Reilly half a dozen times.

As is pointed out below, Coulter may not benefit from exposure. She is allowed to be a complete fool for an entire hour.

I suggest we contact them and let our thoughts be known. Maybe I'll send a link to this thread. If they are favoring one side, it's more like 55-45. How do you tell all the moderators to follow that?

13. I used to watch the Journal
regularly but not any more. It has definitely slanted to the right. They have more conservatives on than liberal. Some of those they call liberal really are moderates. To me, Ann Coulter is not just a conservative. She is on the extreme right of the political spectrum. Coulter has said some pretty outrageous things. I turn the channel every time she is on. Brian Lamb is a lot more conservative than he used to be. I rarely watch the Journal but when he is on I won't watch at all.

14. Lamb is Republican
and I have felt that is obvious for that lasst few years.
On too many occassions I have seen him argue with Democrats who call in, but not Republicans.
His Democratic guest list is pretty sparse. I have seen two Repubs in a row as guests but never two Democrats.
Whoever thought it was OK to use the Washington Times every day as their example of daily news on Washington Journal would have to have a RW bias. They use the WA Post and NYT as balance to WA Times?? That is pretty ridiculous.

15. It's not that simple.
Perhaps so, but your impressions are anecdotal. You haven't watched and documented all the Journals.

The whole idea of C-SPAN, IMO, is progressive. To spend so many years to get the government accessible to the public does not jibe with the idea of then being slightly corporatist. Why would they then have Chomsky, John Perkins, Chalmers Johnson, etc. on the air?

Washington Times (we all know what it is) is read in Washington. I have seen Lamb and the others use it against conservative guests rather cleverly on occasion. Confronted with WA Times, guests can't claim it's the liberal media.

BTW, conservatives always call in and say C-SPAN is too liberal.

17. I agree with you on Lamb.
He may be a republican/conservative (although no one knows for sure)in his personal life, he is usually fair on the program. He urges his moderators to be 100% neutral. I do notice that the hard right favorites always appear on fridays when he's moderating, though.

But I hope democrats/liberals don't stray away from cspan because we need them to keep calling.

16. I watched the disgusting segment live
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 10:07 PM by paineinthearse
Lamb wasn't sucking-up, he was stroking under the desk.

He is usually in control of the show, after all, isn't he the head CSPAN honcho? On many occasions he has gone to great lengths to explain why they have 3 phone lines (Support *, Support Dems, Other). He let "it" run roughshod "we're changing the rules, only going to allow liberals to get through..."

:puke:

4. "Beautiful physical image"?
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 06:53 PM by independentchristian
That has to be one of the dumbest statements that I have ever heard.

Hey, C-Span, why don't you show the footage of her on stage behind podium giving a speech, and then she all of a sudden starts running and screaming scared out of her mind as two students are running across the stage towards her trying to throw a pie in her face?

HILARIOUS!!!

Now, that'd be worth watching!

She claims to be such a "Christian" and then she just let's out the "B" word like it's carbon dioxide.

6. I wrote them about it.
She has blatantly called for American (liberal) deaths (unlike Ward Churchill where they - ie. AC - had to twist his words).

Someone on the FreeRepublic was calling for liberals to be put in concentration camps, killed and eaten in response to AC.

She is her own hate group - sponsored by Scaife and Horowitz and whoever buys her books.

8.  CSPAN just lets them talk and if they talk long enough they make
a fool out of themselves. I don't know how Brian Lamb or any of the other hosts keep from laughing at times, but they generally let the people who are fools show their true colors.

10. Book TV
Seriously, everytime I see a speaker on Book TV it's from The Heritage Foundation, the American Enterprise Group, The Independent Women's Forum etc. If one didn't know better, it would be easy to think that a diversity of opinion is being proffered.

In their defense I did see Mark Crispin Miller one night. But I would say about 70% of the time I click on Book TV, the blatherer is a representative of a thinly-veiled Reich Wing think tank.
