Guckert is officially out in front of the scandal
Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 03:10 PM by Walt Starr
With the Washington Post interview, Guckert has been able to get out in front of the scandal. He's hammered home the "Personal Life" angle with no counter offensive whatsoever in the MSM.

If the progressive talking heads do not hammer home the FACT that this is all about his PUBLIC INTERNET POSTINGS FOR PROSTITUTIOM THAT WERE STILL ACTIVE AS OF LAST WEEK, this scandal is dead on the vine.

It's about his public activities and how they relate to national security, not his personal life, but that shit doesn't matter if nobody in the mainstream is saying it.

1. lol
Anybody who watched him last night on 360 would disagree. Guckert's only out in front in the sense that his lying hypocrisy is the foremost attribute of this whole deal.

Gannon had his big ol' top never-been-touched ass handed to him last night.

Anderson never ONCE called him on that crap and even used the same terminology.

Those two words are now the sound bite associated with the scandal.

13. I agree very few people saw 360
in fact, very people even know anything about this story.

I'm enjoying it immensely because it's a fun scandal. But I doubt 3% of Americans even know the first thing about it. Anybody who's pinning hopes that THIS will be the scandal that brings down Bush is deluding himself.

Now, there's the POTENTIAL that more will be uncovered, but right now, this scandal doesn't even come close to touching Bush. It MIGHT touch Fleischer or Maclellan, but without further cracks in the story, that's where it'll stop. But that doesn't make it any less fun.

11. So switch gears
Make him defend the indefensible. Middle America might give him a pass for his come hither pics, even if they're ookie about homosexuality. But they won't countenance him sharing his bathroom habits as a sexy lure. Start calling him Piss Boy or Toilet Guy or somesuch.

16. actually
I don't think it's the job of daily journalists to argue against Gannon's characterization. That's the job of the pundits and the comedians. Now if Guckert would go on 60 Minutes, or even Meet the Press, I'd expect a much more difficult grilling. But I suspect he's not so stupid as to do that.

Guckert's admission that he's a gay whore effectively was made last night. It has to percolate a little before the mainstream response is made clear - but I don't think Guckert helped himself very much last night.

"it's not the SEX, it's the LIE" was the talking point when Clinton's personal life was being invaded.

In this case, "It's not the SEX, it's the CRIME." A man who was committing the CRIME of prostitution was given clearance as a "journalist" in the White House.

38. He's a male whore.
The White House gave secrets to a male whore.

Karl Rove knew a whore who would work for.......how much? A loyal male whore who would do his bidding. Because he was used to it? Anyway, CBS suggests it's Rove in their Rove puff piece.

Karl Rove is giving US secrets to whores?

Is that a good thing?

It ain't dead, Walt.

I can see the jokes now: You a journalist or a whore? Or both? How much do you go for? Intimate with Rove? Or Bush? Or McClellan? Bottom or top?

The media tries to bury it and we just keep asking. BECAUSE WE CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE, CAN WE?

Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 03:20 PM by fooj
Trying to put some info together on this jerk...and his brother! Here's the quote:
"We repeat: Talon News was created by Bobby Eberle to create a journalistic "haven" for Jeff Gannon (James Guckert), who had already been allowed into the White House in violation of White House regulations, which require any "reporter" to be associated with a valid journalistic enterprise. This is the smoking gun. The blogosphere must turn its attention to Eberle to figure out why the Republican community is suddenly hanging him out to dry, through patently dishonest denials about knowing him."
2-18-05 Editor/Nashua Advocate

"THIS IS THE SMOKING GUN. THE BLOGOSPHERE MUST TURN ITS ATTENTION TO EBERLE"

Do you guys agree?

20. Have you seen this article?
"Rove-Gannon Connection?"

SNIPS~
Some of the real reporters in the White House pressroom were apparently annoyed at Gannon's presence and his softball, partisan questions, but considered him only a minor irritant. One told me he thought of Gannon as a balance for the opinionated liberal questions of Hearst's Helen Thomas. But what Gannon was up to was not just writing opinion columns or using a different technique to get information. He was a player in Republican campaigns and his work in the South Dakota Senate race illustrates the role he played. It is also a classic example of how political operatives are using the brave new world of the Internet and the blogosphere. Gannon and Talon News appear to be mini-Drudge reports; a "news" source which partisans use to put out negative information, get the attention of the bloggers, talk radio and then the MSM in a way that mere press releases are unable to achieve.

This week Democrats, who have serious case of Rove envy, went a little nuts and started sending around information and graphic pictures of Gannon and his porn Web sites. But it is the more routine part of Gannon's life that deserves serious scrutiny. Planting or even just sanctioning a political operative in the WH press room is a dangerous precedent and Karl Rove's hope to become a respected policymaker will be hampered if the dirty tricks from his political past are more apparent than his desire to spread liberty around the globe.

25. Has Helen Thomas always been a " liberal " whose
opinions had to be balanced by a right wing nut job ? No. Helen has the guts to point out that this President's actions are beyond the pale. Democracy as we know it is in the balance.

By this reasoning, during Clinton's term, for every press person questioning Clinton's behavior, there should have been a "liberal" trashing Ken Starr's witch hunt. And of course we know that happened.

15. Clinton's personal life was fair game: Gary Condit's personal life was too
So...what makes beef boy's gay prostitution out of bounds?? The fact that he's tied to Karl Rove and George bush??

No deal!

He knew about "shock & awe" 4 hours before anyone else in the media.
He knew the contents of the Plame papers while they were still top secret.
He knew about the Dan Rather "forgeries" before anyone else.
He had (carnal? ) knowledge on how to get a free pass to the press room that was denied to more credentialed journalists.
He was awarded a pass when still employed by a GOP web site.
He has pictures of himself spread-eagle on male gay porn web sites, showing his prices to prostitute himself.

He blew it (excuse the pun), and he only has himself to blame for the publicity he's been awarded.

All because the left coudln't get their shit together and get on message. Now the story is about the evil bloggers attacking Guckert's personal life.

Every last left winger on any talking head show this weekend should bring up this scandal regardless of the reason they were brought on a show.

The Democrats in the Senate should have been raising holy hell about this last week.

Instead, it's now a scandal about evil leftwing bloggers attacking a poor journalist's personal life.

Very few people read the blogs, so most of America doesn't even have a clue that Jeffie boy was a male prostitute.

56. Sheesh! It's about what he does/did for a living...his career.
GodAlmighty!!! If these interviewers can't make such distinctions, they need some remedial journalism courses.

Actually, those in the mental health field know how to do this. It's about confronting (and in this context, "confronting" doesn't mean angrily shoving someone around). It's about teasing out the inconsistencies in the client's thinking. It's also about LISTENING SKILLS.

Client: "Everybody in my family hates me."
Therapist: "Everybody?"
Client: "Well, my Uncle Joe, he listens to me sometimes. Yeah, he
tries to be supportive."
Therapist: "So, at least one person seems to care about you." etc.

Dammit!! How difficult would it be, when Jimmy/Jeff starts bloviating about his "personal life" for the reporter to just say:
"Personal?" and then just WAIT FOR A FRIGGIN' RESPONSE! <banging head into wall> :argh:

60. I don't get that feeling
I get the feeling it's going away regardless of what anybody wants because NOBODY went against the "personal life" crap.

61. Yep, this one will probably die on the vine today
and it's all because Democratic Senators are wearing pink tutus instead of cryig havoc and letting slip loose the dogs of war.

63. They are all busy talking about the real important story of those
meaningless tapes. That's the real story!
We found out George the dope smoked dope. That's much more important than finding out there was a whore in the Whitehorse involved in politics and the Bush administration. I'm so glad the media know what's important.

PS Did you notice how OUTRAGED the Repugs are that anyone would secretly tape someones private conversation? MY, my!

65. it's not over
by a long shot. In fact, it's just beginning, 'cause there's nothing Gannon-Guckert or whatever the hell his name is can do about it. He can whine "my personal life" all he wants but he is the laughing stock of the press right now. They're too busy laughing right now but it's coming.

67. Buck up!
At least the story will have a shelf life here. Look around, there's still posters starting threads on the Ohio vote and that story's been dead for a couple of months now.

:hi:
