Washington Post republican callers summed up.
From the would-be Paul Revere crowd: The commies are coming, the commies are coming.

Re Europe: They hate us for our freedom. They owe us because we freed them in WWII. They're afraid of us because Bush does what he says and we have POWER!

Re Iraq: They're free. What a wonderful thing we have done.

Re Democrats: They're full of hate. They're traitors.

This is getting really ridiculous.

1. I expect it to get...
... a lot worse than that. :(

Try to imagine the jingoistic frenzy Bush will generate when he starts advancing toward another war. Gonna be a nightmare.

2. I've been thinking about it already.
I have heard people, who really should know better due to their position, accusing democrats of hate and referring to us as "the enemy" and have begun to wonder "How long before they start arresting people for not being republican?"

5. A young co-worker of mine (a former Army enlisted man) said
that he wished that a Tsunami would come and wash away all Democrats and that John Kerry could windsurf our to sea. I don't discuss politics at work but I had to say "I can't believe you just said that." Does that mean he wishes me death? My office is in a total RW, white county. Maybe he assumes everyone is a Republican. I find this sentiment disturbing to say the least. I dislike * and the GOP more that I can express. However, I don't wish death upon them.

Another young man on our survey crew had a conversation with me about the "liberal media." I askled him if he ever read world newspapers like El Mundo, Aftenepost (Norway), the Times of London or The Guardian? He said "aren't all of the British papers tabloids?" These young people (this guy is a college student) are absolutely unaware of world opinion and media beyond the USA.

The young army veteran has been brainwashed with the "liberal media" idea. I have another Army friend who just got back from Iraq. He believes in the "liberal media" myth as well. I suppose they just get Faux news and Rush over there. After 6months to a year at the base in Washington state, he's going to be sent to who knows where. It was supposed to be Afghanistan but it might be Iran by that time. I really worry about him. He is a young black man who joined up so he could get money for graduate school. I suppose grad school will have to wait for who knows how long. :scared:

3. C-Span Washington Journal callers never cease to amaze me.
Did you hear the man who complained that European countries are socialist and communist? He stated that if they didn't collect so many taxes and give everyone 6 weeks vacation then they would have more money to dedicate to sending troops to Iraq and supporting the spread of democracy. Then, for good measure , he threw in that old line "if it weren't for the US everyone in Europe would be speaking German." Hello, Iraq didn't invade Europe. It's not even close to Europe. European countries do not support our war.

4. I heard him.
Where does he see a connection between terrorism and 6 weeks vacation? I think the Europeans probably have a more relaxed/better life, aren't literally working themselves to death, most of them have health care, and will no doubt live longer than us.

6. I suppose he doesn't care about 45 million Americans w/out healthcare.
I imagine that the caller is a very wealthy Republican.

My Republican aunt & uncle went on a trip to Sweden and St. , Russia. I asked him about the trip and he proceeded to complain about the high taxes in Sweden and the poor restaurant service in Russia. ( My cousin just rolled her eyes at me.) No one made him go there. He doesn't live there. He can afford to travel anywhere he wants. Cost is not an object. He is a millionare and my Aunt is a millionare heir to a NC furniture factory business.

These people are threatened by anything but a brutal capitalist survival of the fittest type of government and economy. When Clinton was first elected, my uncle talked about buying gold beacause the economy was going to be ruined by socialist economics.
