J. Edgar Hoover, Roy Cohn, Matt Drudge, Jim Guckert, self loathing gay men
j. edgar hoover, a closeted gay man and pillar of the conservative world for decades, apparently hated gays and made life miserable for many of them with threats and blackmail and political persecution.

and his toadie, lawyer roy cohn, same thing, made a particular point of harassing gays for political reasons.

very hitlerian when you check out the early days of nazism. homosexuals were a hard target for the s.s. and gestapo, thousands were rounded up and tortured and murdered, even though many of the upper echelon officers and generals were themselves gay.

jeff gannon brings the subject of homosexual self loathing to the political forefront. he actively pursued an anti homosexual agenda, for his anti homosexual political party, while living a homosexual lifestyle, until recently undercover.

like chickens working for colonel sanders, like the log cabin republicans, i just can't understand how a gay man would sell out his principles to these hypocrites and phonies, and still live with himself.

3. Roger Stone, another Republican operative, while pretending to be
a family values conservative was busy advertising on a swinger blog his and his wife's availability for swings. It seems that the dissonance between what they publicly profess and their actual lives is too intolerable. You can also take the fake piety of this President, his fake bravado, his claim of living a "clean drug free life, in the same spirit.

Like they say, dichotomy is a bitch.

5. They can't accept themselves.......................
they think there's something inherently WRONG with them. So, they join the side that hates them, work along side them, shill for them, all to punish themselves for something that is completely out of their control. Nobody asks to be gay, just as nobody asks to be white, or black. It's an accident of birth, but they insist on self flagellation as a way to atone for their perceived "faults".

If only they'd give up the charade, come to the Democratic Party where they'd be accepted as equals and start doing some GOOD for the nation and themselves. There are some very smart people on the dark side, but they need to come into the light.

9. Are you saying being gay is an "accident of birth"?
Or is that how Republican's think of it? Because they don't. So, I assume you are the one saying its an "accident".

8. Would it be any different than how a "prostitute" would..
Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 08:26 AM by tx_dem41
sell their principles? Odd, that you felt the need to add "gay" to that statement.

10. I was making the point to add "prostitute" to it, since "gay" was already
Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 08:34 AM by Misunderestimator
in the OP... "i just can't understand how a gay man would sell out his principles to these hypocrites and phonies, and still live with himself."

should read "i just can't understand how a gay prostitute would sell out his principles to these hypocrites and phonies, and still live with himself." (Which, of course, when worded appropriately, sounds kind of obvious that a prostitute would "sell out his principles." Otherwise, it sounds like a regular old gay guy, without having a history of prostitution, selling out.)

And I see you got my point. Which I did put in subliminal text in my post ;)

18. Yes, but not equal merit
And since "prostitute" was left out of the original, it gives "gay" unequal emphasis.

one is: "Why would a gay man sell himself out?"

and the other is: "Why would a prostitute sell himself out?"

The first is calling him out as a gay man ("gay" does not imply an inherant definition of selling out), whereas the other, "prostitute" has a totally different connotation (since prostitution, by its nature, is selling oneself out).

So, I compromise and say gay prostitute, since there's no getting around the gay aspect of this scandal... but the two questions do NOT have equal merit.

11. I've been making the same point -- with an addition
Women are also women's worst enemies.

But the subject of self loathing gays -- and the prime examples -- deserves its own thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is interesting about Gannon is that he wasn't in the closet -- but he did have two identities. He somehow thought that by using two names he could keep his secret?

Gannon is/was actively fighting against his own best interest -- and using the hate filled language of the right wing -- which was aimed at who he is. (That self loathing bit).

Meanwhile -- with the Clinton and Monica episode -- it was WOMEN who turned out to be Monica's worst enemy -- a woman recorded the conversation.

It would seem that if we see a male politician speaking out against gays we should ask ourselves -- is he telling us something about himself?

A male who is comfortable with his own sexuality will NOT attack gay men.

Who are the leaders in the anti-gay movement? (for what of a better phrase)

Perhaps there is something that these people want to hide -- many have children who are gay (Alan Keyes for example) -- or perhaps the loudmouth is himself gay???? A repressed gay -- or perhaps a closet gay.

I remember a case about 10 years ago or so -- a minister in the Seattle area -- he was on a crusade against gays. Well it turns out that he had a long history of fondling young boys and men in his ministry.

14. Google up Drudge and David Brock
Apparently Matt was smitten with Dave and worked pretty hard at wooing him. Poor guy didn't stand a chance.
