Man, Hunter S. Thompson got me through some tough times
Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 11:54 PM by Modem Butterfly
I'll never forget a drug-fueled road trip I took with some friends from Reno to Las Vegas. We read "Fear and Loathing" to each other while screaming down the road. We told ourselves that we were looking for the savage heart of the American dream, but we were really just fucking around. We called that book "The Bible". Whenever I feel sad or hopeless, I just open that book and start reading at random and laugh my ass off.

To Hunter S. Thompson: Thanks for all the good times. I'll think of you whenever I see that highwater mark, where the wave finally crested and broke.

1. Great tribute MB*
Wish I'd been with you all on the road trip.

Bet Hunter would have been pretty fun to have on board too....

:)

3. A quote from "The Bible"...
We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive. . . ." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas.

2. Old Gonzo always gave meaning to my drug and alcohol binges
Like you, I tried to kid myself that I was searching for meaning, when all I really was doing was fucking around. But hey, his words made it a lot more fun. Rest in peace doc. May there be no more fear and loathing for you.

5. I want some ether...
I figure the best way to remember Hunter is to grab a bottle of wild turkey, a sheet of blotter acid, and some adenochrome and go visit Frank Menkiewicz (sp?)

6. Watch out for Savage Henry
"There is nothing more helpless and irresponsible than a man in the depths of an ether binge."
