The God Squad is going to have a fit about The Simpsons!
Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 11:47 PM by Sandpiper
Boy, if SpongeBob pissed off James Dobson, tonight's Simpsons is going to make him have an absolute conniption fit.

Not only did the show put a plug in for gay marriage, but it now has an openly gay character.

And the beauty of all of this is, it's going to create an absolute shit storm for Rupert Murdoch.

Matt Groening, you are a genius!

1. I was confused as to which sister was gay.
Only because I could not remember who had the affair with Skinner and who had the 8 million marriages.

12. Did Smithers ever officially come out?
As far as I can remember, he has never openly admitted to being gay, even though he fawns over Mr. Burns and occasionally shows up in all-male conga lines.

6. About time
The backlash started. Evangelicals can only make themselves look either more extremeist or silly by saying Homer is evil.

8. PTC not on it YET
Should be a blurb on their website later today if they're on the ball (along with a link for FCC complaints since that was a primetime "family hour" slot they violated)

9. I thought the show was a total putdown of gay marriage
It was portrayed as:

1) a money making ploy by Springfield and Homer
2) a slippery slope which leads to the sea captain marrying a sculpture. Farm animals are seen in the driveway in one scene
3) Marge ultimately does not accept her sister's sexuality and stops the wedding
4) a choice, rather than an unconscious preference

11. I tend to agree. I saw it as a much more ambiguous treatment of the...
topic than what has been written in some of the other posts.
I initially thought that the anti-gay crowd would be able to find fuel in the show's seeming ambivalence on the topic.
Your list reinforces my initial perception.

13. I for one am glad that

you have no idea whats funny and whats not. The whole episode had me rolling in laughter on the couch. Straight marriage is a marketing ploy in Vegas, why not gay marriage as well?? what makes gay marriage so fucking holy that it can't be mocked?? Thats what I thought.

You also were not paying attention at the end where Marge discovers that Veronica was a man, saving Patty from marrying the wrong gender anyways.

Why, oh why does it have to be ingrained?? What if later this week I decide that I need a little man to go with my wife. Gayness is neither ingrained or chosen, it can be both.

14. Go ahead and laugh - other people's rights are just a joke to you
apparently. They compared monogamous gay people to farm animals - laugh all you want. While you're at it, Google "Matthew Sheppard" and see what else I don't find funny.

17. BULLSHIT!
1. Exposes the hypocricy of totally profit driven capitalism.

2. The expansion of marrying anything to anything else only comes when the market is saturated and all gays are married. See #1.

3. Marge DOES accept her sister's sexuality and stops the wedding because she finds out the bride is actually a man.

4. Patty explains that she has ALWAYS been gay since early childhood (there's a whole montage of childhood "clues") and refuses the MAN that she was going to marry as a woman, saying "I like girls".

You could not be more wrong.

15. We need to write Fox
and ask them why they felt it was necessary for a disclaimer about gay marriage but that brother/sister marriage thing was cool. No parentl warning need for incest I guess.:eyes:
