all the "Making of the President" books put together. Hunter S. Thompson didn't think it was the role of a objective journalist to fall in love with his subjects but to cover them coldly and expose them for their hypocrisy. While clearly in his writing he favored McGovern he didn't gloss over the inept general election campaign he ran and he didn't hesitate to expose Nixon as the crook he was, Humphrey as the sad clown he was disolving into or any of the others. Thompson took no prisoners. It was Gonzo journalism at its best.

RIP, Hunter S. Thompson.

2. It was a great book
and the one that got me really interested in politics and campaigns.

I loved his style of writing and they way he effortlessly mixed high-class politics with drug culture.

"About fifteen minutes after the rally, I was shooting up with an old friend who works for the Post..."
