Killers on and off the battlefield?
February 21, 2005

BY FRANK MAIN Crime Reporter

Pierre Cole seemed high on killing. Cole, a soldier in Iraq, called his dad from overseas to boast about gunning down enemies in a firefight in 2003.

"He was on cloud nine," said his father, Willie Cole. "'Hey, I got a couple of them,' " he said. " 'I let loose.'"

Willie Cole -- a former military police officer who served in Panama when the United States deposed President Manuel Noriega in 1989 -- was shocked.

"It disturbed me, his reaction to the loss of life," said Willie Cole, a caterer in the south suburbs. "I said, 'Regardless of what you're over there for, the other guy is fighting for something, too. You have to respect that.'"

1. This is the thinking that must be combatted and demonstrated to
discourage volunteer enlistees. These thoughts must be examined at their root and pointed out for what they are WRONG! But the up and coming draft is going to negate this volunteer kill choice. The thinking then is going to be self defense... kill or be killed or avoid the draft.

4. it is possible
the military suggested troop deployments of at least 450,000 soldiers in iraq which was quashed by the neocons. current u.s. policy is less geared toward creating stability in the region as it is in ensuring that oil production and refining comes back online AND stays online.

3. It is a story that troubles me.
But so do the people who call in to c-span and say we should nuke them all. We do seem to be a country that loves the war and killing but please no pictures.

5. what is more troubling
is how many stories like this will pop up 10-15 years down the line when the u.s gets flooded with thousands of well-trained guerrilla troopers who have to go back to working at KFC, the local real estate agent, or the local body shop.

6. just like VIETNAM....soon, they'll be BLASTING customers in Post Offices

or Human Relations Department.....whatever they WANT, they feel that the bush* approach is the way to get it: KILL THEM !

of course, the MASSIVE influx of Afganistan DRUGS coming to America with OUR troop transport flights is also VERY SCARY, adds little to our quality of life here in America.....

7. I saw an interview or show with the mother of an Iraq war vet . . .
can't remember where, but she stated, "I gave them a good boy & they returned a murderer."

I don't know how many of the men in this story were good people before the war, but surely at least some of them were.

"War doesn't determine who's right, only who's left."
