Yes, they have a shortage of water, food, and electricity, plenty of raw sewage on the streets, there's looting, and pollution is worse because of all those fires, and they have to queue up for ages to get gas which is more expensive than before the war (this in oil-rich Iraq), but they have 100 (one hundred!) free newspapers. They have much to celebrate.

Rummy kept talking about how we didn't know about the infrastructure prior to the invasion......we also didn't know about the WMD etc etc etc. I kept waiting for Leher to bring that up and ask, "Did ANYTHING we knew turn out to be right?" And then, when Rummy started talking about the stuff that DIDN'T happen.....humanitarian crisis, oil fires etc......the stuff we planned for......well, THAT was wrong, too!!

(Forgot to add that we have the humanitarian crisis & oil fires now because of his incompetence......but he won't admit that!)

29. It's strange that

one man could hold the fates (and deaths) of so many. That's one thing that has always puzzled me about this administration. Absolute power concentrated in just a handful of people. It's like the rest of the government was completely shut out. These few hijacked this country and took over the steering wheel. Unfortunately, they're driving us over the cliff.

Out of all the people who get "dissed" at this website, I think that Rumsfeld is right up at the top. He elicits more anger than even Bush, I think. He appears to be the #1 hated man in the US (the world?). Look at the number of posts whenever you see the word "Rumsfeld".

Just some observations:

a) he seems to love adulation and credit. He seems to just roll around in it. If there's a problem, however, he doesn't hesitate to extricate himself fast. "I would love to take credit for the plan , but it was actually planned by Gen. Franks".

b) he has a real shaky sense of truth and fiction. Which is too bad for a high-profile public personality, because the tape recorder is always turned on. People are always keeping track. Which makes for a very nerve-wracking career.

c) he appears to have a very poor control of his emotions. Seems to be emotionally immature. I've heard him get angry, and his voice gets shrill. He has a real hard time controlling his anger. You wonder: how can someone control the lives of millions, if they can't get a grip on their own emotions.

d) he uses colorful, poetic adjectives. I think it's something that adds to his credibility. Weird ways of using it, though. It's almost like he's not taking people's lives & deaths seriously. "Looking for WMD's is not a treasure hunt".
