Poll question: Do You Think Bush Will Implement A Draft In The Second Term?
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 10:07 AM by DistressedAmerican
I have been hearing endless reports about how thinly the forces are currently stretched. With Iran and Syria as possible future enemies, Do you think they will try to implement a draft?

Here's My Suggestion: Clone Bush And Let Him Fight His OWN Freaking Wars!

1. He doesn't have to worry
about being re-elected.

3. And he doesn't CARE what the sheeple think
The 51% that voted for him were used and tossed away
The 49% that didn't don't make a difference

4. Won't call it "draft"-it'll be "leave no citizen behind" program
or some such bogus title. Maybe the "Clean Iran" program.

13. Frame That Debate Baby!
I suspect they will go with "National Service Program" or some thing like that. Hopefully, if they do it, there will be a civilian service opt out. Any chance?

I like your suggestion though!

14. Oh, yeah, and I can see it now.
Civilian service? Sure, but, gee, we don't have any more Forestry worker slots available. But we'll take a year off your time if you volunteer for non-combat military and free up a soldier who can be fighting. Oh, shucks, that pastry-chef postion is being filled by Halliburton, but we could sure use a machine-gunner.

Hello, Iran.

17. It's just like how they are
with SS. People weren't going for their first deal with SS and they changed the wording to try to sell it. They'll do the same with a draft. I say all those who are pro-war should go first. And I do worry about this. :\

5. Yes & No....
Shrub will spin it into something else, like a workers program to get the MANY still unemployed back to work. Working, by fighting his imperial wars.

6. Last year there were many DUers insisting that it would happen this April
As that month approaches, fewer and fewer are doing so.

Freddie. He's got nothing to lose and our children to gain. Speak for others...not for me. :hi:

10. April is still two months off.
All we need is another 9/11 inspired by Iran, of course. And with the precedent, it doesn't need to even be 9/11 scale. One bomb, a couple hundred killed, will be all that's needed to whip up war against Iran or Syria. Only caveat, it has to be on US soil.

16. Good Freaking Point. I'm Already Seeing The Wind-Up!
How long until we get the pitch?

Certainly another attack is all it would take to really rush it.

Even without an attack, Bush can declare we have proof of Syrian support of the Hariri bombing and it could be on in 12 hours (maybe less). They clearly do not need ACTUAL PROOF of these things. Just the poorly named "intelligence".

8. Cut financial aid, raise college costs, and export jobs.
No draft necessary.

His ruined economy is good for enlistment.

A staged terror attack in the U.S. is also part of the recipe. With Saddam in jail, we'll need a new fall guy.

"Get Osama on the phone."

11. I Thought About Writing It That Way But,
I didn't want to assume. Silly I know but, there may actually be some force in the universe that could intervene. I just keep hoping it doesn't get any worse. Naive hope at best.

19. Congress has to vote for a draft
so Bush can't do it by himself.
