Do right wing nut jobs do this to you?
This happens to me all the time. I will be online debating thru email with friends or at other message boards and if I use a NYtimes article or La Times or whatever... they completely disregard everything in the article and say "Well that is a liberal news source". Like it completely makes the whole story false and untrue?? UGH

Well with all the right wing columinists being paid they are suppose to be more credible.. RIIIIght.

vent over

1. Oh yeah
It's a way of discounting anything you don't agree with without having to argue it.

Granted, I don't believe anything I hear on Free Republic either. Or Fox or CNN. If they told me the sky was blue I'd have to go outside to check for myself.

2. They think newspapers that aren't ulta conservative are liberal.
Imo, the ones you listed are probably moderate newspapers.

3. Yeap. Makes it handy to dismiss out of hand anything
from Free Republic, NewsMax, Washington Times,
Wall Street Journal, all of their nakedly partisan
sources.

7. my former best friend used to do that all the time
i could back up what i was saying with BBC ("Oh right - you have to go to Europe to find someone who agrees with you") or NYT/LAT/BostonGlobe ("can't find a legitimate news source?")

always he would disparage my sources and try to make me out to be a fool. Finally I called him on it point blank - with examples - he was nailed righteously and he knew it. He also knew I was livid. He tried to backtrack and sweet talk but I cut him off without another word for almost a year.

We began to speak again about eleven months later but do not discuss anything related to politics. Actually we only see each other or speak about once a month as opposed to lunch at work daily for over 14 years.

16. And tell your best friend
that it's a damn shame that we have to count on BBC to get our news right, honest and factual! It's the only way we're going to know the truth.

8. To them the whole media
is "liberal." They only say that about LA and NY because of their locations and how they general go blue. I think anyways, and it's an easy way to discredit them. I've had it happen a few times. So that's why I usually try to stay away from them. I use Yahoo mainly.

9. Most definitely
I've even had them dismiss sources that come from the federal government. Just do what I do, call them delusional and make fun of them. Mike Malloy did a hilarious bit the other night about Christian conservatives when it comes to them listening to scientific evidence about evolution. He imitated them sticking their fingers in their ears and going, "La, dah da dee dah dah. I can't hear you. La dah dah dee dah dah. Oh Jesus loves me, yes I know, because the bible tells me so."

That's the perfect response whenever you encounter that. Just make them look like idiots because that's what they are. Believe me it gets under their skin. I can't wait to try that sticking your fingers in your ears thing. Brilliant, hilarious, and damn effective.

11. That's like the only thing they ever say.
And I'm like "why would they just make it up?"

They respond, "because they hate The President(tm)"

It's hard to communicate with my friends sometimes.

12. I go to the source
If I can, I find the press conference, original report, orignal press release and skip all quotes from media. It puts things in original context and is harder to dispute. Or it would be if people didn't pull out 5 words to interpret 1,000.

13. Reminiscent of the ORIGINAL Nazis canard "Jewish Propaganda"
Change "Jewish" to "Liberal" and you have the Kinder and gentler Nazi, the Bushevik's Attitude.

The funny thing is, it's a bad case of projection. By example, the Nazis were CONVINCED (the rank-and-file, anyway) that Liberal Jews had taken over the media and were disseminating the most insidious propaganda EVERY MINUTE.

But in reality, it was the Nazis accusing the Jews of what they themselves are doing.

The same hold true for Busheviks. They accuse their enemies of the darker things their Leadership does itself.

And what we have is two sides, convinced that the other side lies constantly, and in every waking minute serves the deceit of their Evil Leaders.

In other words, the Nazis thought the Jews were doing it and the Jews (some) dared say that's what the Nazis were doing.

But only one was right.

Just as it is today. Today's Kinder and Gentler Nazis believe that Free Americans are lying constantly and we believe the Kinder and Gentler nazis are doing the same.

Again, history (if there is to be honest history in the Age of Totalitarianism, the Age of BushPutinism) will show that only one side was right, and the other projecting it's OWN EVIL onto it's victims.

Anyone care to guess which side I think are teh Jews and which the Nazis?

14. No Because I Cut All RW Nut Jobs Out Of My Life
Including two of my sisters and my Dad. Sounds harsh so be it. These people have NO RESPECT for me or my opinions and feelings. I stick with GOOD folks who understand where I am coming from and where I want this country to go.

I have a new family now and it is not based on DNA or blood. By golly I really like them and they are nice to me. Imagine that. After years of abuse and crap from my RW birth family I finally feel loved and included.

I do not keep my enemies close. I cut them off at the knees. Just me I guess.

15. they do it with politics and everything else too
Notice they didn't go after Kerry or Gore on thier positions, they went after them for personal issues and then resorted to calling them names.

Whenever anyone does that to me I say: "I won't discuss this if you insist on attacking the source/calling the source names. It's a boring childish tool used by the right to divide us. Let me know if you want to dissus this like adults."

21. Right.
Remember, these are largely the people who, in high school, believed firmly in the established social heirarchy and in enforcing its darwinist exclusionary tactics. Little about them has matured or changed in any way since then.

They think you are the crazy one, and they just want to see you lose it so they can laugh at you some more. Unless you enjoy debate for debate's sake, you might as well stop wasting your time with them. Make them come here instead.

On Edit: Tried to impliment HTML without reading directions multiple times, eventually caved in and got it right.

Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 03:05 PM by Stirk
There's nothing you can really say at that point, because they aren't operating in reality. Ask them if they consider Newsmax and Fox News to be honest outlets, and if they "yes", end it. There's no point in arguing with a moron.

my point being bush=big government (because this person was saying they don't like big government and i do which is why i'm a liberal and they aren't)

I found other sources like the CATO institute and Fox news! bwhahahaha

22. I always say that I read and listen to real liberal and progressive media
And that the NYT et al., are NOT liberal. Corporatist, yes, with, nonetheless, some excellent journalists who do their job as real journalists, but they do it within a Corporatist context all the same.

Then I say that's where critical reading skills come in handy when assessing various news perspectives; these skills help one to weigh, evaluate, and discern how accurate and balanced the report in question is.

They usually just stare blankly at me or stop emailing.

24. Ask them is that somehow makes the factual information reported not true..
This is exactly the affect that years of the Right harping about the Liberal
Media was supposed to have: discrediting the facts if it comes from the
"wrong" source.

Very frustrating, I know!
