If so, how?

Christianity is acknowledging your human limitations and acting above them. (e.g. turning the other cheek instead of beating the snot out of a person who insults you, freely giving resources to others in need, and so on.)

* uses his mouth to say he's a Christian.

*'s actions prove quite the contrary.

As a person who fits the aforementioned definition far more than *, I feel I must challenge his claim.

And Christianity is not about saying "Jesus died for us and therefore what I had done is now resolved and okay, and ditto for my future actions." That's the bleating of the evangelical sect - a sect so delusional and out of touch with reality that they're not worth anyone's attention for more than two seconds.

Most interestingly enough: Billy Ghraham is peddling a new book; whose commercial asks us why we're not living in such happiness and other blah blah blah that God had promised us? Turn on your 'closed captioning' on the TV set before you see this commercial and you might just see "w?" appear for a couple of seconds during it! Seems apropos; w's actions have only hurt many. And only helped those who don't need any, never mind proving the contrary.

1. I get so sick when
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 04:51 PM by FreedomAngel82
people on the right talk about how good and moral Bush is compared to Clinton or something like that. I wonder how they like stealing, lying, murder and poverty. They seem pretty cozy with it.

6. Maybe they need to read some of his Bible more. Here's a few suggestions:
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 05:00 PM by HypnoToad
Ecclesiasticus 13:3-8 (1)
Ecclesiasticus 13:16, 18-23 (1)
Ecclesiasticus 20:1
Ephesians 2:8-9
James 2:14-17
James 5:1-6 (paralleling today's economy)
1 Timothy 6:10
Proverbs 22:16
Deuteronomy 24:5
Mark 12:38-44
Matthew 5:44
Matthew 7:1
Matthew 25: 37-40
Matthew 25: 42-45
Luke 6:31
Luke 14:12-14
Luke 17:21
Revelation 3:17
Revelation 22:12

(1) The New Jerusalem Bible, Doubleday Publishing, 1989. This is the fun part about organized religion. So many people have translated the original texts in so many ways, no two versions are alike. Then there's the validity of the "original" text to consider...

16. I also like what Jesus said in Matthew 11:19:
"Wisdom is proved right by her actions."

Lots of great references--thanks! I'm busy looking them up now. Keep my Bible handy when I'm on DU. But my New International Version doesn't have Ecclesiasticus, so guess it's off to Google-Land for me!

17. And thanks for yours! Also,
the NIV and the KJV don't always say the same things. It's a bit of an annoyance... and I don't recall which one had the more amusing rendition of these little chapters:

Ezekiel 23: 1-27
Genesis 19:31-36

(A cheery disclaimer, the more amusing ones are the R-rated ones...)

4. In a Debate During the 2000 Republican Primaries
didn't he claim that Jesus was his favorite philosophicator? Apparently, the claim's the thing among fundies. They don't bother to check his record - just take him at his word. Of course, this prestidigitation only works with 'pugs; liberals can't be 'saved' in the first place because they 'don't get Jesus.'

7. Well he did preside over the execution of a whole lot of people
Does that qualify? I mean, that's what Jesus would want, right?

8. Shrub has proven he is no Christian
Jesus said,

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

"Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

He did not qualify these statements at all, not even if you are president.

What shrub needs to do is to tell all those people who can't recognize it for themselves that he is no Christian and has chosen the way of an imperialist master over his connection to God and salvation of his soul. Now that's a fact.

10. While he obviously has not acted
in accordance with what most would think are the preachings of Jesus.
He has acted how christian rulers have acted for the last 1500 years.
Crusade and Inquisition anyone?

13. Depends on which Biblical verse one chooses to go by.
But I'm sticking to the parts of the Bible which are most damning against the selfish bastards in power. And they're quite obvious, but my other reply above contains the list of relevant chapters of suggested reading.

*'s seem more akin to the Old Testament, a lot of which contradicts what the New one wants us to do and believe; nevermind that the Old Testament itself lacks logical coherency and manages to contradict itself many times too. What sort of slopartist Editor allowed the Old Testament to go out with the big problem of Genesis where Adam and Eve eat an apple, get kicked out, make two boys, one boy kills the other, and then for no reason there's a lot more people. Did Cain screw Eve a few thousand times? Even then, if Adam and Eve were The Progenitors, then why do southern fundies whine of incest? We all commit incest then, if we go by what the Bible says!

And given how illiteracy has been a common problem even before somebody decided that society might just be better if EVERYBODY was taught to read, it's obvious that for 1500+ years, anyone attempting to try reading the material never quite UNDERSTOOD what he had said.

14. there are many Christians in the US who don't buy it
and I doubt if you could find Christians anywhere else in the world who believe Bush is a genuine Christian.
Christians outside of the US must see the American RW perversion of Christianity as another Taliban.

15. Potential taliban. So far * has used arguably hostile countries to invade.
With *'s new steamrollering tactics on the domestic front, it won't be long before he pats himself on the back as to how great he thinks he is and then do the same with foreign issues.

We shall see how * and his evangelibans commit their acts of evil before the world liberates us too... :scared:
