Are they really going to fire Dan Rather?
they fire a decades-respected news journalist because of some petty manufactured "scandal"?

here is my opinion on this "rathergate":
Everybody knows Bush was AWOL during his national guard years. The documents were made by conservatives as a set-up, here was the conservatives' plan for their CBS coup:

1. Conservatives give documents to CBS and Dan Rather
2. Dan Rather reports it
3. Conservatives attack Rather
4. Rather is fired.

1. Not conservatives....
criminal fascists. Big difference.

Other than that, I agree...it was a Rovian set-up. No question.

3. Greg Palast had a great article about this
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 07:07 PM by FreedomAngel82
According to his article Mapes was set up by Rove and his people because she would be the only person to talk about voting fraud and they didn't control her or the people at CBS, so they had to get rid of her. Bingo.
She probably knew this was true and that's why she ran with the story. It's one of your basic Bush 101 info.

11. It's hard to believe Bushco is that crafty and effective.
However, since their entire success has been built upon polished acts of manipulation and deception,...I find Palast's theory quite plausible!!!

This cabal is just so freakin' evil!!

9. Last July the March 05 retirement was planned - there is no firing.
Seems the GOP are claiming a bit more than they have really accomplished as they try to strike fear in the heart of the next CBS anchor.

And the bloggers proving fraud - when no fraud was ever proven - that is silly - except right winger Howie Kurtz keeps saying fraud was proven - but when emailed and asked to disclose the proof he can't-

comes back with type face/font - and the Illinois Lab proved the Olympia typewriter in the Col's office could type the memos. Seems our media has selective memory - or better - they repeat Rove lies as if they were truth.

2. It's asinine for them do that
He has been a respected journalists for years, starting with his coverage of the Viet Nam conflict in the 60's. If they are going to fire him for this, then we (meaning the country) need to reanalyze how many times a public figure can make a mistake before being left out in the cold to die by the side of the road. If making one big mistake is the criteria for be hung out to dry, let's take a hard look at *.

4. I hope they don't do this
Like you said: Mr. Rather is a very respected journalist. You gotta remember though it's the "with us or against us" mind set that Bush set in on 9/11.

6. Selective morality.
Try spurious morality.

I can no longer respect many people in power or those who want power.

Except Patty Wetterling. She's sadly a lost cause because people who voted for that vermin piece of shit mark kennedy instead said Patty had no experience. (so we, the people, prefer career politicians. That's tantamount to the status quo. Which means, those of us who can think have lost.)
