they fire a decades-respected news journalist because of some petty manufactured "scandal"?

here is my opinion on this "rathergate":
Everybody knows Bush was AWOL during his national guard years. The documents were made by conservatives as a set-up, here was the conservatives' plan for their CBS coup:

1. Conservatives give documents to CBS and Dan Rather
2. Dan Rather reports it
3. Conservatives attack Rather
4. Rather is fired.

According to his article Mapes was set up by Rove and his people because she would be the only person to talk about voting fraud and they didn't control her or the people at CBS, so they had to get rid of her. Bingo.

If they are going to fire him for this, then we (meaning the country) need to reanalyze how many times a public figure can make a mistake before being left out in the cold to die by the side of the road.
