4 of us planning a Hunter S. "reunion"...it's a Gonzo story of sorts:
Back in about ~1975? myself and 3 other friends were sitting around my living room drinking and having a few tokes...we all had recently read "Fear & Loathing"...and were all huge fans of HST. (I had lost track of 2 of our little group until today, well not totally not 'lost', just hadn't been 'in touch'.) I managed to track them all down. What makes this interesting is that on that particular night we figured it would be cool to call Hunter. We actually managed to find his phone number and called him up .... I guess it was around midnight. We spent almost an hour on the phone with him. Woe unto me I never thought of recording the call because I have almost no recollection of the details...only that it was great fun. We are going to get together soon. (Among this small group there are: 1 commercial pilot for 24 years, 1 owner of 3 pharmacies, one Cardiologist, and 1 instrument supervisor in a major hospital.) I'm looking forward to it.

1. Wow! That is such a cool story!
Thanks for sharing that.

It's amazing that you were able to find his phone number AND get in touch with him.

So, what did you guys talk about?

Did you tell HST that you were just sitting around getting high and you felt like calling?

What a cool story.

Someone should write a book about HST "Brushes With Greatness" and your story should be included.

:D

2. I'm hoping we can all mange enough recollections to put together a
synopsis of the conversation. I promise I'll share whatever we do remember! I think it will be easier when we're together and can reinforce each others' memories.. :D

3. Did you call up J.R.R. Tolkein too?
Apparently back in the seventies he used to get woken up a bunch at 2 AM (his time) by calls from stoned Americans wanting to have a chat.

I don't think he was as talkative though.

4. No, I can't remember any of us having much interest in the trilogy back
in those days. We were weird, but we weren't quite -that- weird.

6. I guess HTS would have either answered the phone or
shot it.
