...in the war. How do you feel towards these people?
My mother has told me about a woman that works with her. She had a son who served in Iraq. The woman did the jingoistic chants of GO USA!!!! We're going to kick their butts. Kind of shit. When her son came home briefly, in September, and she had all the local media over to cover her son's stay in Colorado. Then he was redeployed in Iraq. Then in December, he was killed. What her attitude is now, I don't know. I have never met this woman, and part of me feels really bad for her and her loss. Nobody should have to go through that. The other part says "Tough Shit." Why is it that people don't realize that in war people die and that is why it should be avoided as much as possible? They never make that connection until one of their own is dead. While she was cheering on the war, and probably helping to re-elect Bush with her vote and maybe other things too, calling the local media over to cover her son's visit, well over a thousand families have experienced what she did. With some of them, it just get harder for me to be sympathetic. They helped to perpetuate the cycle that would hurt them and many others. What do you think?
