'The Gates' in Snow - PIX >>>

Huge crowds this weekend - I've never seen so many people in the Park, in winter. The snow came on Monday. Very pretty, don't you think?

1. Very Pretty
I'm happy for the artists, I believe this is what they were hoping for; the effect of orange(don't recall the offical name of the color) against silver and white. I wish I was able to see it in person.

2. Saffron
Although it really looks orange. Until the sun hits the fabric, and then it looks saffron.

3. Wow!
Love the contrast.

Makes me think of something you'd see in an Asian country.

4. Beautiful.
Thanks for the pictures. I think I like them even better in the snow. I would love to see them but since that won't happen these pictures are the next best thing. It is a nice way to start the morning.

5. And the New Yorkers' preference for wearing black works very well
with the whole scene.

Neat pictures. I hadn't been that inspired by the pictures I'd seen so far. These give a feel for why people like it.

6. I went on Saturday - they did pick the best month to do it
There were no competing colors in the park.

7. Interesting second photo...the fence looks orange too.
Is that part of the exhibit? Thank you for these inspiring pictures.

8. The little fence on the side is red...
...it's part of a "Danger! Thin Ice" warning.

My favorite commentary on the whole "gates" thing was something I saw on a park bench in The Rambles (inside CP) on Sunday: a miniature reproduction of the Gates, made from Cheese Doodles, simply set up in a line, and left it up to the viewer to decide if it was tribute or mockery.

9. Doesn't snow make everything pretty?
I love Japanese gates but this just seems ordinary to me. Sorry.

12. Don't have a photo of it...
But I saw one that did those one better: "The Gates" made from Cheese Doodles.

15. Now I know why Christo picked February! What good luck to get snow.
When I saw the first picture I thought "cross-country skiing!" Then several pictures down was a cross-country skier. Lucky-ducky!

17. Interesting ... that's not what they said on 60-Minutes.
I saw Christo and Jeanne-Claude on 60-Minutes last week and they said they picked February because of the starkness of the bare trees. They should get their story straight.
