Help.. need source for Santorum quote
question posed on a list I belong to:
anyone know the source of this quote?

"While serving in the House, Santorum was asked by a reporter to explain why
> his record on environmental policy was so dreadful.(0% from the League of
> Conservation Voters) Santorum replied by observing that the environment was of
> little consequence in God's grand plan. "Nowhere in the Bible does it say
> that America will be here 100 years from now." The reference was to the Rapture,
> which he indicates is impending."

1. I don't think Catholics are as fixated on the Rapture
Maybe Santorum is, but that would be a weird thing for a Catholic to say.

4. But many Southern fundies are

It doesn't matter if they're protestant or Catholic fundies (like Bobblehead Ricky); they're obsessed with the so-called rapture, the sex lives of others to cover up their own perverted proclivities), and power.

Ricky isn't even a native Pennsylvanian--or a Pennsylvanian, period! He's a Virginian, by birth and culturally, so all the better to kick that rich white trash out of the Senate and put a real Keystoner in!

3. I found it on slate
it attributes it to an earlier article from 1994. http://slate.msn.com/id/2277/

(...Santorum can sound like a militia member when he gets busy denouncing big government: "I've read the Bible. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that America will be here 100 years from now," he said at a rally in 1994. "We can blow this. This country can fail. This government can take your freedom. I know you feel safe for now ... but don't give up your freedoms. Don't give up your freedom." In the article in which these comments were quoted, his tone of voice was described as an impassioned whisper.)

A reference to an article appears to be closer to the source but I can't pull it up. (second reply) http://cgi.goerie.com/cgi-bin/yabb_goerie/YaBB.cgi?board=news06_cat;action=display;num=1042747350

Hope this helps.
