(Gannon) Selling Gay Adult Domain Names Tied to White House Scandal
Edited on Tue Feb-22-05 06:22 PM by Goldmund
Four domain names that are associated with the latest White House propaganda scandal have been placed on the market.

The adult domains are registered to Bedrock Corp, the corporation tied to James Guckert, who is the reporter accused of being a propaganda tool for the White House. They have been parked at Afternic, an online domain broker.

Guckert’s two escort domains, militaryescorts.com and militaryescortsm4m.com, can be bought flat out for $7,500 each. The asking price for hotmilitarystud.com, his most popular domain in terms of traffic according to Afternic, doubles to $15,000.

The seller, presumably Guckert, or an agent acting on his behalf, will consider lower offers, but is seeking a minimum of $500 for the three best-known domains, while the rarely mentioned wrestlingm4m.com has a minimum of just $100.

On Edit: John from AmericaBlog is wondering how these sites which were "never hosted", according to Gannon, could have over 47 000 unique visitors a month???

I know from time to time cops bust internet call girls. Personally, I think they shouldn't since the internet allows them not to have to have pimps and empowers the girls to do what they want if they want to.

However, They DO bust internet call girls, so....shouldn't someone complain to the authorities about this out in the open violation of the law?

Just sayin'

42. Not to put a damper on anything
(and not to defend Guckert in any way) but the traffic to those sites is pretty easy to explain. These domains have been mentioned and discussed extensively all over the web, on Air America Radio, and even on TV. I'm sure that there have been thousands of curious people typing them into their browsers to see what comes up (I'll bet that a lot of you have). That alone could account for all of the uniques he's getting. People pay money for the kind of exposure those domains have been getting for free. Also, selling domains is not unusual at all (I've done a little domain name speculating myself in the past) but I do think that he's asking way too much for them. They have high traffic right now but the interest in them will eventually die down and so will the traffic.

By the way, he's probably making at least some money off of them right now. Most of the links on those Afternic "for sale" pages are actually paid ads and the owner of the domain gets some small amount everytime someone clicks on one of them.

43. Yep, those kinds of numbers aren't unbelievable.
FWIW, I've sold a few domains through Alternic in the past and it wasn't unusual to get a couple thousand hits just off the auction pages, and those were for uninteresting domains that had no media attention.

If a site like Slashdot can inundate a website with more than 10k users an hour (the well documented and much feared "Slashdot Effect"), it's not inconceivable that traffic from the blogosphere has driven those numbers to the 50k range over the past day (the traffic stats are realtime and automatically increment up every time some blog reader hits one of the domain names).

47. The story has been out for only 2 weeks.
I don't know much about what standards they use for those stats -- is a 2-week spike enough to justify the claim that they have 125K visitors a month?

51. Probably not.
Those stats are probably automated as Xithras said. So the figure for average monthly visitors is most likely automatically extrapolated from that two week spike. That's why I said that I didn't think the domains were worth what he's charging and that the current level of traffic will probably drop drastically.

50. Actually, could be the smartest thing he could have done!
The longer he keeps himself up on top in the public eye, the less chance that he will be "suicided". This way, he keeps a profile high enough to not draw "additional" attention (if ya know what I mean) but is still able to draw enough cash to get him to a safe, undislosed location. Once he's out of the US and incognito, why should they waste their time "suiciding" him?

It may sound stupid, but I would probably do the same thing in his shoes.

the espionage scandal has been forgotten.
Everyone is now looking at the Plame leak
No-one is looking at the mess in Iraq
or the LIES that were told in a previous State of the Union address.

GannonGuckert was PLANTED there as a ticking time bomb
to DIVERT attention from the neocons.
Naked-boy is doing what he is paid to do.

If the Biblebangers walk out of the GOPIMPUSAPARTY then the neocons will "console" the twit and manipulate him all the more easily.
And they KNOW they can depend on us to go after this scandal big-time because of what they did to Clinton.
