Will contraceptives be covered in the new prescrition drug plan?
I see that drug companies want erectile dyfunction drugs to be. What about birth control?

1. The prescription drug plan ...
is for seniors. As in postmenopausal. Not much use for contraceptives there.

ED-drugs on the other hand tend to be in higher demand the older one gets.

So it's not as rediculous as you make it out to be.

3. some people on Medicare are disabled and yes, they are women
of childbearing years. Yes, contraception should be covered for them! I'd think that many disabled women might not necessarily care to "reproduce".

4. I was under the impression that
this was senior prescription plan. I never heard anything about it covering disabled non-seniors.

Isn't the non-old government health plan called Medicaid, i.e. a completely different government plan?

9. not all disabled people qualify for Medicaid
Like if you happen to have something, like a family and a home and perhhaps a few bucks. If you aren't broke, Medicaid is basically not an option being it is based on income and assets. You pay out of your pocket for anything "extra" believe me. This is no free ride. God bless America huh?

The compassion is killing me.

2. Isn't the new plan for retired people, those on Medicare?
Edited on Tue Feb-22-05 10:58 PM by Enquiringkitty
I guess those of child-bearing years ( the disabled) on Medicare would get birth control assistance. Many of the plants in my area don't have birth control on their health insur. but they do cover erectile dysfunction. They say that pregnancy is a natural condition and erectile dysfunction is not..... Ha!!! ask anyones grand father and great grand father if that doesn't happen at some time when you get past a certain age... THAT is natural too.

7. You do not have to be 65 to be on Medicare
You can be under 65 and be disabled. If you've paid enough into Medicare, you end up forced into it if you have insurace. Many insurers require you to enroll in Medicare A & B and pay the premium and then you have the supplemental plan to pay for as well.

And yes, the Medicare drug card covers disabled people on Medicare.

Also, not all disabled people qualify for Medicaid so they are really rather screwed!

8. I didn't know that! I had to wait until I turned sixty-five.
Well, if they approve drugs for erectile dysfunction, they certainly should cover birth control.

10. it depends on your situation
You'll be contacted by social security and asked if you want to enroll in part B Medicare if and when you are eligible.

There is a waiting period of 2 years to get on Medicare if you are deemed Federally disabled. It is not especially a status that I would think most would care to have, especially at a young age. :(

12. I was eligible to sign up for Medicare six months after.......
.....I was put on mental disability.

I have both A & B at a cost of $54 per month that is deducted from my SS check.

11. Some birth contorl pills are more like hormone treatments
for women who are perimenopausal. They may have little to do with birth control and everything to do with helping control menopausal symptoms, etc.
