Democrats Should Not Let USA Next Get Away With Smearing The AARP
Steve Soto of Left Coaster has a plan...

Democrats Should Not Let USA Next Get Away With Smearing The AARP

<snip>

First, if he hasn’t done so already, AARP Chief Executive Officer Bill Novelli needs to call Karl Rove and demand that the White House condemn the ad and the tactics of the USAN....

<snip>

Second, the AARP should do a press conference after the call to Rove for two reasons: first, they should show the despicable ad to the media and point out to what lengths Bush’s supporters will go to smear the AARP; secondly...

<snip>

Third, after this press conference, Howard Dean should have a press conference whereby he calls on Ken Mehlman at the RNC to repudiate the ad and the smear of the USAN by the end of the day....

<snip>

Fourth, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi should hold press conferences later in the same day to call on Republicans in both the House and the Senate to repudiate the USAN ad and smear campaign.

<snip>

There's more. Read the rest and cheer - it's brilliant!

1. All well and good...
... Rove will laugh, Mehlman will laugh, and the media will ignore all those press conferences denouncing the cruel methods of the Repugs.

The real way to change this is the ultimate influence. Call or write every legislator in one's district and state, and state simply, "if you don't completely repudiate the administration's plan to undo Social Security (and I know that is its intent), I will not vote for you, on the basis of this one issue. Period."

The only thing that counts these days is threatening the security of the politicians who will vote on an issue. It's the only thing that's ever counted.

A few thousand letters like that to each and every supportive or undecided legislator hits a lot harder than uncovered press conferences.

It's a sad commentary on the state of politics these days that one has to threaten politicians in order to get them to do the right thing, but, that's always been the case.

Public opinion counts a lot more than press conferences.

Cheers.

2. If anything that couple should sue.
I saw a report not too long ago of a guy that worked for a marketing firm I believe, years ago. He pic was taken as he sipped a cup of coffee. Well somehow Foleys (I think) used that same pic of him in their new campaign. The guy found out, he knew it was his pic and sued Foleys.

3. The right wing used AARP to push through the Medicare bill.
Now they want to smear them.

Sigh.

I'm sick of this.

5. And the RW lied about the costs and benefits.
AARP and sheeple like them are the cause of Bush being in office right now and they are all getting screwed one way or antoher --- and they deserve it. I have no sympathy!

4. Then admit that USA Next is taxpayer funded.
And directed by the White House.

Why else would they be so fervently loyal to GW's Social Security scam?

6. One more time. Forget Bush and Rove. They are lame ducks
that the REPUBLICAN PARTY and its corporate masters hide behind. They provide the "cover."

It is the REPUBLICAN PARTY and the faithful that raised $10,000,000.000 to destroy AARP. THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

There are always threads on DU about framing. If you blame Dubya and Rove, you have lost the argument. If you blame someone closer to home, individual senators and congressmen, you have a chance.

Go to the grassroots on this one. It is easier to blame a faceless, greedy, corporate horde, THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, than the cutesy cowboy from Maine.

7. The Swifties have been huffing too much scotch guard
if they think they can take down the AARP.
