I forget who but last night while surfing for Man-Gannon stories on ABC, CBS,
& NBC I was struck by how articulate and grammatically proper some of the
European leaders were using English as a 2nd language. Unlike * who has
English as his first (????) language.

After as many years of specific training he's probably gotten, to avoid saying stupid things in public & try to sound passably intelligent he ought to be quite good.

The folksy "everyman" gag he's perpetrated on people - especially people he's conning who speak that way naturally, has long worn thin. He insults those people by mocking them.

You don't come from a rich & elitist family in the NorthEast to Texas in your teens, go to Ivy league colleges & suddenly develop a thick Southern accent when convenient. Which is not to call him erudite, by any stretch. "Aw Shucks, y'all" doesn't make you working class.

Go to any large city in Western Europe & you can expect to find people that cope in multiple languages very well. Go to some places in eastern Europe and you find many who speak English better than Georgie in menial jobs.

I recall that during the 2000 election, Georgie Dubya made a big deal of trying to woo Americans of Mexican & Spanish descent with some hasty stump phrases. Later in an interview it was clear that it was a put-on. He had a few words of tourist Spanish.

I think perhaps he ordered beer in Spanish.
But having a burrito at Taco Bell doesn't make him multi-cultural.
