Paul Martin - Future PM of Canada
I could do the research myself, but I'm pretty bored by Canadian politics, despite living in it. So do any of you have any opinions on Jean Chretien's former Finance Minister, and definite successor?

1. Well he's
a successful businessman....keen on post-modern governance.

Dad was a cabinet minister. They are from Windsor Ontario.

Said by Chretien supporters to be indecisive....however he can apparently be ruthless when need be....seeing as there isn't actually any leadership 'race'

2. (Sigh! ) Only an optimist would ask
such a question of Murkins. And who's that Frenchie you're talking about? Got a picture of her?

8. I like Paul Martin
On looks alone, he looks more appealing than always haggard Jean. On Canadian magazines like MacLean's, there's a lot of teasing at Sheila Copps' expense. Some of the often repeated jokes are at her self-centeredness (apparently, something happened at the Junos) and her political stupidity. What's the deal with that?

Anyway, in MacLean's, I read that Martin is a good champion for anti-poverty groups, and is excellent with money. Most famously, he eliminated that glaring deficit in the mid-nineties.

9. The Liberal Party...
The tradition is to alternate between franco-phones and anglo-phones...since Pearson...the anglo-phones have been screwed (John 'I'm on the ball' Turner)...
Expect a low turnout...expect more Liberal backbenchers...expect a Yankee trader to do business to 'patch' the problems with the US...expect more of the proud stewardship that governs the canadian state...

If YOU are a real Canadian, you wouldn't even ask the question

10. He wrote me back a couple of times...
back round those finance minister days, and he is a wholly honourable chap who would make an excellent prime minister. His leadership in the UN of the committee for getting the world access to financial services was really outstanding.

He has the heart and soul of a truly great leader.

11. Too conservative
More so than Chretien, and far removed from Trudeau.

Vote for Jack Layton and the NDP!

12. How's he too conservative?
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 09:20 PM by George_Bonanza
I read recently that he has been labelled as "schizophrenic" by a bishop because of his views on gay marriage. Plus, he worked really hard for this poverty bill that helped 23 000 Canadians pull above the poverty line. I forgot what the bill was called exactly. He has been described as a champion of the anti-poverty people. Doesn't sound too conservative to me.

I don't know why I should support the NDP. I know they really screwed up in B.C., and their poster boy Glen Clark is now a ad executive for capitalist billionaire Jimmy Pattison. Trudeau disassociated himself with the party after they first were ignorant about Quebec and its separatist movement, and then doing a total 180 and wholeheartedly supporting it. At least that's what I read in the memoirs.
