"It's a rotten idea....it stinks."
A simple and direct way to describe Bush and the Republican plan to "reform" Social Security. We could preface it with, it doesn't matter if the idea came from a Democrat or Republican, it is still a rotten idea. It stinks.

The American people understand simple and direct language. That is about the simplest and most direct we can be.

1. Head up ass syndrome...
I guess I am at a loss as to how "privatizing" SS is going to help those who need the assistance now. If they start cutting the meat out of the program, we are only going to end up further and further down the toilet.

What a dumbassed idea.

2. Faith-based logistics
1. In the beginning there was the Plan.
2. And then came the Assumptions.
3. And the Assumptions were without form.
4. And the Plan was without Substance.
5. And darkness was upon the face of the Workers.
6. And the Workers spoke among themselves saying, "It is a crock of shit and it stinks."
7. And the Workers went unto their Supervisors and said, "It is a crock of dung and we cannot live with the smell."
8. And the Supervisors went unto their Managers saying, "It is a container of organic waste, and it is very strong, such that none may abide by it."
9. And the Managers went unto their Directors, saying, "It is a vessel of fertilizer, and none may abide its strength."
10. And the Directors spoke among themselves, saying to one another, "It contains that which aids plant growth, and it is very strong."
11. And the Directors went to the XO(Executive Officer), saying unto them, "It promotes growth, and it is very powerful."
12. And the XO went to the Commander, saying unto him, "It has very powerful effects."
13. And the Commander looked upon the Plan and saw that it was good.
14. And the Plan became Policy.
15. And that is how shit happens.

3. The whole thing is becoming too complicated and nuanced
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 02:04 PM by The_Casual_Observer
for chimp to put the right spin on it. Anyway, he seems to have dropped the whole thing right in the middle of his state-to-state road sales job in favor of a low hanging fruit/good publicity junket to Europe. The Europe diversion might not have been the best move.

7. It is part of the neo-conservative agenda to dismantle all....
...social programs. Of course it stinks and Bush first went on record in 1978 when he ran and lost for a seat in his congressional district and at that time he made the privitization of social security his main plank. He was shot down by the voters in his district then and he should be shot down by congress now. Bush is also a coward, because he has brought no plan or program to the table, just shooting off his mouth and saying social security is bankrupt, in crisis, etc, all untruths!

8. But he has promised the Repubs in Congress that he ...
will take all the heat and give them cover. The Democrats cannot permit that to happen. If they want to dismantle Social Security, there must be a political price to pay. Dubya doesn't have to run again - the rest of them do.

11. Correct, so in order to tar them all with the same brush....
...just show what their real intentions are, let them bring a specific plan to the table and shoot it full of holes. The facts will reveal what they have in mind. At the moment no plan exists, so the president and supporters of his objective are just saying whatever they think voters want to hear. The democrats need to lay out all the facts as they now are, including SS shortfalls out in the long term 2050 or 2075 or whenever. Then work backward from there to show which plan would work best for all Americans.

12. How about a comparison to a smoldering pile of manure that refuses
to be put out?
