Trouble in Freepville: Jim-Rob's "Ethnic Cleansing" campaign
Americans for Legal Immigration is a conservative PAC that lobbies for stricter immigration laws and opposes any kind of amnesty for "illegals". Many conservatives and a significant minority of liberals agree with that point of view -- but pResident Bush does not. Bush has proposed a sweeping amnesty plan for Mexican illegals which has split the conservative community.

The latest installation in the saga of American conservatism comes from FreeRepublic.com and its autocratic "leader", Jim Robinson. A few weeks ago, Jim-Rob (as he's called) banned many users who disagreed with Bush -- and many long-time users were among those banned. This has created a fracas among the hard-ass right, a fracas which isn't being picked up on outside the movement.

Here's what William Gheen, President of Americans for Legal Immigration has to say:
The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country. The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Robinson refuses to respond.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

By taking sides with the open borders lobby, Jim Robinson has taken a position that is at odds with more than 80 percent of the Free Republic community and the majority of conservatives in America. The fact he is using tactics his own users would find unethical to censor articles and silence opposition with banishments and intimidation is of great concern to all of us as Americans. New members of Free Republic and those that are not aware of Robinson’s covert attempts to stifle debate should be warned.

It leads to a few other articles and threads, too.

I think I may remember that group "Tower of Power". Aren't they from the 80's? Refresh my memory with some of their songs. Thanks.

11. So Very Hard to Go
is my favorite. But I must admit I like the horn opening to You're Still a Young Man very much also.

Any band with a kick-ass horn section is a hit with me. I used to love Chicago also back then even when the critics hated them.

14. So Very Hard to Go is another great one.
I used to love Chicago too, in their early days, before Peter Cetera.

2. Isn't it great?

I still feel that the discontent about Bush's amnesty plan is the wedge that may divide those who stupidly voted for him last November. May it be a divide bigger than the Grand Canyon! Because the more fragmented they are, the less power the criminal Bush will have.

If things don't change soon we will have to start printing that last statement on our United States Citizen Cards.

6. this is why the current conservative backlash
is doomed to fail (in the long run). when they run out of dems, free thinkers, immigrants, and others, they will turn against themselves.

i guess we'll have to have another 8 year democratic administration and congress to clean up their mess.

that have split from FR and started their own forums. I believe Liberty Post is one of them.

9. What "conservatives" need to learn
is that

1) Free immigration is, and always has been, in the interest of the capitalist ruling class, and

2) conservatism is an ideology intended to serve the interests of the capitalist ruling class.

I'm actually not opposed to free immigration on principle, myself, but my opinions reflect (among other things) the interests of potential future immigrants.

15. My Brother (Who is conservative)
Told me at Christmas that he has never joined FR. He looked at me and said "I can think for myself, what do you think I am? Sheep? If I wanted to be told what to think by a website I would join FR. But I believe that we can make a change through free speech and the right to speak our mind. Not that bullshit". Cha-ching. :)

17. Dissent PURGED from Fascist Republic
FreeRepublic is too good of a name, I refer to it as FascistRepublic.
I, too, was banned. For what? The "horrible" act of posting a link to one of Jude Wanniski's commentaries. The post I made was entitled "Life In Baghdad These Days" http://www.lewrockwell.com/wanniski/wanniski42.html
Of course, it is impossible to post commentary from LewRockwell.com, since FASCREP has banned anything from Lew's site, so I posted a link straight to JudeWanniski.com site, but that link is now inactive.

My only post was the one to Jude's commentary. I didn't say anything threatening, or use any profanity, nothing of the sort. They pulled my post, then re-posted it as "Zot In Liberal Land These Days" http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1303787/posts
Now, look at there responses, and you will notice not once did I ever post back to them. Not one post from me, aside from that post to a Jude Wanniski commentary. All of the hate they have.
Notice the following post:
To: NoAnthraxVaccine
Most of us on FR have served in the military, have family that is currently military, currently are military, or are connecterd to the military in one way or another.

We tend to view those who'd denigrate the military in a very dim light.

Kind of funny, being I never mentioned a single word about the military or anything, and in the same exact forum of people making remarks about me, my home page is mentioned, which is... www.NoAnthraxVaccine.net which is my own internet-based veterans organization dealing with the DoD's Anthrax Vaccine Immunization Program!

FASCREPs are so full of hate, I have no idea how they can live with themselves.
