I feel bad about hanging up on an army recruiter
They keep calling my cell phone. God only knows how they got the number. This is about the 10th time now and they keep trying to force me into meeting with them. The last time I told them I respected them but I don't want to murder Iraqi's. This time I wa sso mad I just hung up. Next time I will tell him he can come meet with my boyfriend and I lol, then I am sure they won't want me. Am I out of line here? This is really frustrating but I feel bad at the same time.

1. You are not out of line. Get a shrill whistle. That stops obscene phone
calls.

22. Warn them ...
that you're an Amazonian witchdoctor (make up a tribe name, or use a tribe from "reality" TV) and you can transmit virulent diseases through the phone, that you've chosen ombisudian dysentery and pronglondian syphilis for them and that if they're still on the line when you finish your magical incantation, they will die a slow and painful death within the next two weeks. Then slowly recite:

Wooka Wonga Hooka Honga
Walla Womba Wunga Tonga
Walla Walla
Palo Alto
Kirkuk
Dunkirk
Captain Kirk
Done!!!!

Say it sincerely with belief. Heck, maybe it'll work!

If they're still there, say "Enjoy your demise." But they'll probably think you're too crazy to waste any more time on.

It's much more fun and rewarding to get telemarketers to hang up on you than it is to hang up on them.

32. I've tried a variation to this with religious door solicitors.
You're right, it is gratifying!

We're just about to sacrifice a chicken. Won't you please join us in our ritual?

 :9 We need a "drinking blood" smiley.

36. That's good, but I am afraid I'd burst out laughing. The best I can do is
say "I am happy with my God" and smile mysteriously as I shut the door. I get very startled looks, because there is just one God, right? Right?
Mwhahahahaha!

4. Ask to be put on the no call list
I know that the law does not apply to the government but it sure doesn't hurt to let him know that you lump him and the army in with annoying telemarketers.
As for your phone number, are you a recent high school grad? Just wondering whether your school or someone there gave it to them.

25. They used to call here all the time
And for no reason too. Finally we just told them to stop calling or we'd tell their supervisor. After that we haven't heard back. :) So just threaten to turn them into their superivsor if they keep bugging you.

5. Nope, you are not out of line.
Do not feel bad, either. You are a number to them, a quota to meet, 'fodder' to put on the battlefield so the Bush boys can continue their war and cut deals with their cronies. As someone who's been in the Army, that's pretty much all you are. Fuck them.

28. Yes.
All colleges, high schools and private schools that recieve federal funding must disclose all their students information to the US Armed Forces. It's part of the NCLB act, and I shit you not.

9. Fuck that ... I humiliate them on a regular basis.
Located on a busy corner, (Peet's coffee shop next door,) the folks from the recruiting center hang outside for smokes, etc. Whenever I see them, I shout: "Shame on You! Stop lying to our children. How do you sleep at night?"

Once and while, it is met with cheers.
This is Portland, OR, afterall ...

12. They called me about a dozen times as well
The Marines only called me once, but the army kept calling and calling. Finally I got really mad. I don't remember exactly what I said, but it wasn't very nice. I still don't feel bad about it to this day. I was polite to them many times, but if they can't take a hint, well, they suffer the consequences. And that was back when Clinton was a relatively new president. Peace time. Today, I don't think I would be nearly as patient as I was back then.

14. I'd give them a warning
1. Inform them this is a cell phone number.

2. Tell them you are requesting that they stop calling the number, and let them know if they persist, you will file a harassment complaint with the telephone company.

Get all your cell phone bills in which their number shows up as an incoming call...show how many minutes of yours they have used...and include a copy of your cell phone contract that shows how much they charge per minute, and SEND THEM A BILL!!

I would.

I'll need you to speak with my therapist,

23. Report the harassment to your cell phone company.
Then go to your state website and register with the attorney general's "do not call" list. I believe there is a federal register as well.

24. Do No Call List
does not apply to political campaigns and Nonprofits. I guess the Military would fit in that group. With that Leave No Child Behind Law, unless you are under 18 and you parents sign the form not to call, they can and will call you. You are right. They don't stop. Got to be so bad my daughter (18 at the time) was terrified to answer the phone. This went on for MONTHS. I told her to tell him in no uncertain terms. Well, she accused him of stalking her (how she felt) and said she would report him to the police if he didn't stop calling her. He never called anymore after that.

29. Do not feel bad about hanging up on them.
Those paid liars don't feel bad about calling you. Tell them to fuck off and don't call you. The only way you can get rid of them is to make sure they know there is no way you are going to enlist.
Take it from your Uncle Two Gun, these people are the lowest of the low. Anybody who takes a recruiters gig is an asshole. I know. I'm a veteran.

PLEASE--do yourself and the world a favor, and change your cellphone number!

Getting the "mark" to feel bad about turning you down is a classic technique of a salesman. You're falling for it--don't.
