haha look what I told this recruiter the other day...
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 08:28 PM by Stop_the_War
I'm 16 and someone called the other day, and I answer the phone and guess who it is? A recruiter for the Navy wanting to sign up my sister (who is in college) for the Navy because my sister was in Air Force ROTC and all that jazz. heh heh. I answer:

"I'm sorry, but she's not interested in fighting your imperialist wars. War is wrong and I hope you realize that someday, bastard."

Then I hung up. I felt good after that.

1. Good job. Short and sweet, just like a Faux News sound bite.

3. The wars you refer to
are not the recruiters. Wars are the result of decisions made by civilian leadership. Men and Women in Uniform carry out the policies of civilians in government. Some may be bastards, but none are bastards because they are in uniform. If you have problems with imperialist wars waged by your country, take your issues up with those who make those wars, not those who die on the battlefield. Thank God for those who die on the battlefield. Your post proves the old adage that youth is wasted on the young.

5. Oh, come on...
Give the kid a break. At least he understands that war is wrong, which is more than most Americans can comprehend. And by the way, as a poor kid from West Virginia who served in the military, I can tell you that recruiters are the "used car salesmen" of the military. Useless scum. Thank God for kids who can stand up to them and tell them no.

clearly, humanity must evolve beyond blind order following. Recruiters for this war that can sleep soundly are NOT my kind of people.

I think you did the right thing.
I think they need to hear more of it.

6. Good for you, it isn't always easy to stand up to adults is it? But

I want to say that while I myself loath recruiter tactics, its important not to turn disgust with Bush/ Rove / Rumsfeld onto the troops. So many have said they do not want to do to these troops what was done after Vietnam. So just go ahead and get your point across with the recruiter, it is still all volunteer, unless your in the guard or Army. They are getting desperate to meet recruiting goals so people will have to be just as forceful right back at them.

8. When my older son was a junior in high school
& the 2000 election had just been stolen, recruiters began calling on a regular basis. I had one pre-9/11 conversation with a recruiter, then stopped answering at all whenever I saw "United States Government" on my caller i.d.

I told him that I'd told both of my sons that I didn't want them signing anything presented to them by the military at school.

"Why not?" he asked.

"Because we now have a Republican as president & Republicans love war."

And look where we are now.
