So apparently the latest on the * phone call tapes is..
.. the "friend" wants to give them to *, give book proceeds to charity and now says that friendship is more important than history and that history can wait. :wtf:

Do you think this person was threatened into this retraction of statement and purpose like any of the friends or former cabinet members who come out with dirt and correct themselves a day or so later?

Does anyone have any backbone these days?

2. Naw. The tapes were a softball diversion tactic from Gannon.
Look at the public reaction: whoop-di-doo! All is forgiven, no one cares, pot smoking, how quaint! That's soooo Clinton! :eyes:

Bush probably recorded them the day before they were released, at the command of Uncle Rovie.

4. I know I'm suspecious of them
Wouldn't they have relased these tapes last term or something? Why now? It doesn't make sense. Plus I remember in the beginning Bush always said how he had a feeling God wanted him to be president. Unless he was lying of course to appear to his little base. And then the quote of him saying he'd just be a media creation.

8. Agreed
The tapes were created for the sole purpose of damage control.

It's no secret, either. The author, a known Bush shill, was on 30-day stand-by in the year leading up to the election.

5. Like John Stewart said, he's a douchebag.
And I think it's bullshit.

I think Karl gave him the script last week, put him in the room with Wead, and said, say this.

Here is where we ought to have our own covert ops...

7. I begin to think the entire thing is a cheap publicity stunt for the guy's
book.

But that doesn't mean the tapes aren't of interest... notice we haven't seen ANYONE denying their authenticity!

9. Bah!
Doug Wead is an old friend of Dubya and his whole family. He's been part of the BFEE for a long time. This is a smoke bomb. It's a rubber tank. It's a monkey on a string.

As long as we keep hounding the media and pressing on this, Rove will continue to find more and more "outrageous" things to throw in front of the cameras.

10. If we assume the KKKarl distraction scenario is right...
Do you think that his name (Wead) is fake?

11. Doug Wead is not some minor player.
He's a major figure in the right wing. He hangs out with some very, very rich folks. He was a figure in the establishment of MercyCorps, he's worked in the Reagan and Bush I administrations, and is associated with the Gospel.com crowd.

A few phone calls from Doug Wead and you'd have Pat Robertson's pals all over *.

12. Why should history have to wait? Per bush, "we'll all be dead then."
I think the entire "tape revelations" is another desperate attempt at "don't look here, look there." Gannon, of course, being "here."

13. Maybe this is why, no matter how much we screamed, during the...
...last 4 years, about things the Press SHOULD have been covering, they didn't. KKKarl was saving them up, to release them when he needed a WMD to hype (weapon of mass distraction).
