1. I remember hearing this too
I would like to know. I never did know if it was true, but I distinctly remember it.

2. A Repug would say, "if we say it five times, it is true." I believe
this is true under the more objective standard of really the truth, not a lie, but I cannot remember now where I read it.

3. Truth.
http://www.thehilltoponline.com/news/2003/08/22/NationWorld/Operation.Iraqi.Liberationthe.Name.That.Didnt.Make.The.Cut-451885.shtml

Operation Iraqi Liberation:
The Name that Didn't Make the Cut

Fact One: more than 200 American servicemen and women have been killed and many more have been seriously injured since Operation Iraqi Freedom began.

Fact Two: hundreds of Iraqi civilians - many of them innocent women and children - have been killed.

Fact Three: America's world credibility has been destroyed by the war in Iraq.

In President George W. Bush's State of the Union Address, he claimed Iraq had the materials to produce as much as 500 tons of Sari, mustard gas and VX Nerve Agent, all considered to be weapons of mass destruction

7. False, it was a Jay Leno joke.....
War continues in Iraq. They're calling it Operation Iraqi Freedom. They were going to call it Operation Iraqi Liberation until they realized that spells 'OIL.'"
Jay Leno

If someone can prove otherwise I would like to know. I have searched and aside from this joke, a few blogs and a band named Anti-flag, I have found no proof that this is true.

12. True...
I remember it very distinctly. I almost spit out my drink as soon as I heard it. I was like: Are they screwing with us?! Surely they know the acronym. Was it a subtle hint?!? Yet another thing to piss off rational people in the know. Very much true. They changed the acronym to O.I.F. right before it would have caused a ruckus.

13. No reason it couldn't be both true AND a Leno joke
in which case, it's too bad he spilled the beans. It would have been better if they have continued with that name, all unawares......
