Discover the Benefits of
Giving Wisely to MRC

You believe in the work of the Media Research Center, and you want to make sure that we will continue to restore political balance and responsbility to the news media well into the future. You want your gift to make a difference for us, but are concerned about your own future financial needs and those of your family.

We deeply appreciate your assistance, and will try to make it as rewarding for you as it is for us. That's why we want you to know about the financial tools you can use to plan your gift to us in a way that returns tax and/or income benefits to you or your family:

You don't have to use cash to make your gift -- you can give us appreciated securities instead, and receive important income and capital gains tax savings in return.

You may be holding assets that would benefit MRC more than they do you -- such as a life insurance policy that you no longer need, a parcel of real estate like a second home or undeveloped land, or a collection of books or artwork that you no longer have room to display.

You can make a gift that costs you nothing during your lifetime - make us a beneficiary of your will or revocable trust, or a beneficiary of your retirement plan, and leave your cash flow and current financial plans undistrubed.

You can make MRC a partner in your giving -- you can deed us your home but continue to live there, and you can make a gift that pays you lifetime income.

These tools are called planned gifts, and this website is the place to learn more about them. Where to start? If you already know something about your giving options, click on Ways to Give Wisely and go right to the planned gifts that you want to read more about. If you're not sure how a gift can meet both your charitable and personal goals, go to Discover the Benefits of Giving Wisely to learn how planned gifts work and how they can stretch your giving ability.

When you're ready to hear more, complete the Information Request Form for follow-up information from us.

1. This is outrageous!
What kind of asshat would sell their house to Brent Bozell? For what? It is not like there aren't enough RW media watchdogs out there

2. It sounds borderline illegal. I wish it were, at least.
There is at least one testimonial on the website. "I bequethed a large gift" or some such thing.

3. I saw some deluded old woman did
That reminds me of one of my grandmothers, who when she got old and sick started sending a whole bunch of money to Televangelists.

My dad had to stop her so she wouldn't throw away money that she needed for medical care

4. It's really sad. What's the legal recourse for the duped when this
leads to financial ruin? I do not know of any.

5. Saying to the rich...
... "you're a lot richer now because we've been pounding the right-wing conservative message into the press and into Congress, so give up some of those expensive knick-knacks that you bought just because you thought they'd give you some class."

6. But this was a recommended planned payment plan for those with no cash
assets to expend. The rich typically don't get PT Barnumed into low brow investment schemes.

8. The truly rich...
... don't use cash.... :)

What they seem to be proposing are not investments, but tax deferral/credit schemes tied to things which would be subject to inheritance taxes, and in that sense, this sounds as if it's being pitched to the elderly, moderately wealthy winger whose wealth is tied up in holdings, not in cash.

I admit that the pitch may be geared to the slightly less well-heeled, but the methods suggested sound more like something available only to the relatively wealthy. The bottom-end Bob Boudalangs don't have spare houses to hand over to the MRC.

Still, you're right about the weirdness of it, but I suspect, if you look at the fund-raising efforts of other such right-wing groups, you'll find them all remarkably similar in tone, if not in detail.

Cheers.
