Standing Up For Stooping
I love this site, and I am so happy to be able to say exactly what I feel here. There is something I've noticed here, though, that cuts a very noticeable swath through my fellow DUers, and I'd welcome some discussion on it. Condi's boots, Laura's dresses, Jenna's Jell-o shots. There are a lot of people who cry foul if these topics are touched on and ridiculed. It's sexist or demeaning to an individual to be hooted at because she has a gap between her teeth, has a large ass or is the innocent spawn of losers (you know where I'm going with this, is my guess).

Here's my take on it. Condi, Laura, and Jenna are all caricatures. Their sex is incedental. I've posted on other threads that a lot of the physical characteristics we point out with so much glee are the characteristics of a menacing, repressive regime. Since I'm a cartoonist and also a feminist, I take no umbrage at the "lowness" of it all. I quite enjoy it. This is a safe haven to vent and just "let go!!" I love it. I love thinking, "That Condi looks like she's more fun than a firecracker jammed up a frog's ass!" I like thinking of Laura as thought she's a coat rack.

Caricatures are meant to give all of us that sense of relief we feel when our very humanity is at stake. We know the Bush regime for what it is, we feel its foot upon our neck. I'm telling you, that's when I have to take the closest thing to me and smash it, because my arguments about the "important stuff" are lost in the fray. Condi's pinched, scowling look is the implied threat. She really is a menace. The only relief you can bask in is the image of that poor guy in homeroom drawing theatrical cartoons of evil, lucious-bodied villainesses, and drooling.

I don't see humanity in these people. Humanity is what gives someone beauty. My friends and I are also gap-toothed/overweight/a little foolish after a couple of glasses of wine. But to me, they're all drop-dead gorgeous. It's like a feast to my eyes to see them. They make me smile and laugh. Their faces are so beautiful to me. And then I see a person lacking the same humanity and I wonder why they're so powerful and allowed to be among us.

PS-When I see all those pictures of Clinton tugging hands with everybody, it makes me melt,I get choked up, and wish for better times.

2. You raise a lot of really great points
I think people's caricaturization of the Bush administration comes from pure hatred of what they stand for. The dehumanization of a person is done because someone cannot see or respect their humanity. To me, I laugh at how idiotic the people of the Bush administration look because they represent nothing good, and everything horrible and base. Therefore, their inner value becomes what I regard of their outward appearance.

That is my opinion, I hope others contribute as well.

3. That dehumanization is what separates us
from the rest of the anthropoid rabble. I cannot stand to look at Laura Bush's face, for example, and think of anything other than, "Oh, there's the Joker." or Condi: "Wallow in my whip-lash, you bad little tricycle-riding daddy's boy". Or, "hello! I'm here! Hellooooooo!" from Ann Coulter.
