Ann the Man call's Helen Thomas "that old Arab ....
Here's Ann the Man's full quote:
"Press passes can't be that hard to come by if the White House allows that old Arab Helen Thomas to sit within yards of the president."

and here's Jame's Wolcott's reply:

Wearing surgical gloves, DCMediagirl extracts this latest choice morsel from Ann Coulter:

"Press passes can't be that hard to come by if the White House allows that old Arab Helen Thomas to sit within yards of the president."

I wonder what would happen if a writer, say me, were to refer in a Vanity Fair column to "that old Jew Norman Podhoretz" or, naughtier still, "that old Jewess Lucianne Goldberg."

Through the magic of exaggeration, I can just imagine the commotion. Daniel Pipes and David Horowitz would blow their respective lids, Michael Medved would wince with feigned pain, rightwing bloggers would demand that liberal bloggers disavow me and delink, I'd be lumped in with Justin Raimondo and Kurt Nimmo as prime examples of the New Antisemites, petitions would file in to Vanity Fair demanding that I be fired, or, for penance, be forced to tour Auschwitz with Prince Harry.

Arabs of course are fair game on talk radio and the trash punditry, of which Ann Coulter is stringbean queen. Presumably Helen Thomas's very ancestry, about which I know nothing, makes her an incipient terrorist threat, though presumably commando call boy Jeff Gannon would have been coiled to pounce into action if the octegenarian made any sudden violent moves. Coulter's typically crass wisecrack is the cartoonish version of the hostile profiling of Arabs and Muslims being conducted all over the neoconservative right, as typified by Michelle Malkin's pioneer work to excuse the Japanese internment in order to justify the preemptive incarceration of Muslims and other suspicious elements.

I'm sure this sort of thing doesn't fluster them in the slightest. Conservatism and sadism have become indivisible.

2. coulter subsists on her name being in the public consciousness.
She is to political analysis what Hulk Hogan is to professional sports. (Sorry if you've seen me say that before. But it's true!)

What say we all try that advice that Mom gave us, that if you ignore them, they'll go away?

Replying rationally to her irrational comments sure isn't working.

pay any attention to that good advice.

Coulter keeps saying outrageous things and keeps getting her name out there. She will continue doing this until we stop paying attention.

There is nothing worse for someone like Coulter than being ignored.

They won't cease their adulation if we ignore her, so our best bet is to make sure what is left of sane America is not allowed to hear "conservative pundit Ann Coulter" without our offering as corrective such blatant evidence of what she really is.

BTW, ignore them is exactly the avice Kerry followed with the Swift Boat Liars. How did that work out for him?

44. Only because the MSM are on their side.
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 12:31 PM by tblue37
The MSM are not on our side. They will continue to push Coulter as a reasonable conservative pundit.

Guckert is not being ignored by our side, though, and those few who are in between who hear about him are horrified by him. But becasue of the complicity of the MSM, most who are not actively looking for anti-Bushco information on the net never even hear about him.

However, everybody hears about Coulter, whether we "promote" her views by mocking them or not. Even if we ignore her, that won't prevent her from having a public forum, available to everyone, whereas their ignoring Guckert does prevent most Americans from hearing about him, or if they do hear, it is only in very mild, uncontroversial terms, with most of the really awful stuff left out. In fact, much of what the MSM media tell about him makes it look as though we are hounding him unreasonably, not as though there is anything really important to the story.

Guantanamo Briton 'in handcuff torture'

David Rose on the allegation that a British detainee was suspended by his wrists as punishment for reciting the Koran while in US military custody

Sunday January 2, 2005
The Observer

A British detainee at Guantanamo Bay has told his lawyer he was tortured using the 'strappado', a technique common in Latin American dictatorships in which a prisoner is left suspended from a bar with handcuffs until they cut deeply into his wrists.
The reason, the prisoner says, was that he was caught reciting the Koran at a time when talking was banned.

He says he has also been repeatedly shaved against his will. In one such incident, a guard told him: 'This is the part that really gets to you Muslims, isn't it?'

The strappado allegation was one among many made about treatment at both Guantanamo and the US base at Bagram in Afghanistan made to the British lawyer Clive Stafford Smith when he visited his clients Moazzam Begg and Richard Belmar at the Cuban prison six weeks ago, having tried for the previous 14 months to obtain the necessary security clearance.

It was the only time I ever saw Jon Stewart start a Guest interview WITHOUT the guest walking in and sitting down at the beginning of the interview.

I think it was because her Mini-dress was so short, that if she had to walk in and sat down on the couch, she would have given the audience a free Beaver/sausage shot. :puke:

Or maybe they had to edit the segment, because she/he is such a RW Lunatic.

Micheal Barkann,USA network commentator comes walking down the aisle on camera to do an interview with Heiden, But coulter thinks he's coming to interview her! she's looking back watching him approach, flipping her hair, smiling...DOH! he walks right by not even noticing her.
The entire Heiden interview had coulter framed over the interviewers shoulder looking unimportant/jealous.

Top Ten Other Judgments Dick Clarke Made About Condi Rice Based on Her, errr, Appearance
10. Her favorite literary character? Lando Calrissian from Star Wars
9. That she might express policy disagreements by saying, "Oh no you didn't!," and then dismissively cracking her bubble-gum
8. That the NSC's phones would frequently be jammed as she furiously dialed in to vote for Reuben Studdard on American Idol
7. That she might distractingly "whoop it up" in the War Room, yelling "Shazz-amm, suckah!" after each successful missile strike
6. That she would create a diplomatic embarrassment by calling a foreign dignitary "Sugah" and then offering him a Seagram's-and-grape-soda
5. That Donald Trump really waited far too long to tell her "You're fired"
4. That, far too frequently, National Security Briefings would degenerate into nothing but yo' mama jokes and gang-signs
3. That her duties as National Security Advisor might be compromised by her outside interests: singin', dancin', and stealing chickens from Old Man Codger's farm
2. That when confronted with a ghost or other supernatural spooky, she would bug her eyes out comically while wailing, "Feets, don't's fails me now!!!," which is an express violation of White House security protocols regarding extradimensional intrusions
...and the Number One Judgment Dick Clarke Made About Condi Rice Based on Her, errr, Appearance...

46. Actually,
in this piece she is claiming that Richard Clarke is the one who thinks such racist thoughts, not her. It is the same as when Howard Dean made that remark about how Republcians never see that many people of color in the same room unless they are the hotel and wait staff. His remark, made to a Black audience, was well-received by them, because they knew he was slamming Republican racist attitudes, not saying all Black people are hotel and wait staff. But the MSM (and RW Black shills) screamed very loudly about how "racist" Howard was being to say that.

But notice that no one is pulling the same thing on Coulter for what she has said. The two remarks are of the same sort, except that Coulter's is bizarrely specific, in a way that implies that she really does think such things, though she is putting them into the mind of Richard Clarke rather than presenting them as her own.

...for knowing that she's never really going to get anyone but the type of people who already read her to listen to her, and playing to them pretty much exclusively. I'm not sure that many other columnists have such a keen sense of just where they fit in the journalistic world. Probably because the other columnists seek to expand their readership, whereas Ann Coulter's made so many mistakes she can't do that, so she's just catering to her people.
