Has it always been like this? One of the "trollalert" threads I'd been following has been disappeared.

1. If the troll started the thread it disappears. |
|
That's the pattern I've observed.
I think it's because a troll is tombstoned and all their posts are deleted. That makes the whole thread go away.
The one you're looking for was tombstoned.

2. Thanks, kinda makes sense. BTW I think you know the thread of |
|
which I spoke, since you and I were both replying on it a bit earlier. Thanks for the info.

I know it's a waste of time to argue with a troll, but it's a so fun when they think they can be Sean Hannity and we'll be their Colmes.
You can just see the suprise as they scramble to get their talking points out.

4. The trolls loose their posts. |
|
I have wondered if this is a good idea. Some trolls do stimulate a flurry of responses, and it is very interesting to read the responses. You should probably direct this to the admins, the topic will likely get moved.

6. That was the first time I was in the middle of loading a thread |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 04:30 AM by Lone_Star_Dem
when it was deleted. FYI, when that happens it stops loading.

7. it depends on how "offensive" it is also |
|
like if someone starts a thread calling for killing someone even if it wasn't meant literally. that type of thread would be pulled entirely.
but if something looks like it was meant more to start trouble but not totally offensive in itself then it would probably just be locked. or sometimes a decent thread turns into a flamefest and it gets locked.

9. I agree. It would be better if they could be put in a "lockbox" |

(like our Social Security money was supposed to be) rather than vanished.

10. or an archieve--untouched and complete: Lots of cultural histories to be |

written-but with missing data-it will be difficult to capture a picture of the tensions and conflicts.

11. It's the illegal thread death squads.... disappearing threads never to |
|
be seen again.... shocking but appropriate.
