This was just reported on CNN. IT was a quoted as a study, but I didn't catch the source. They blamed it on the growing number of older baby boomers.

I don't think it has anything to do with the baby boom generation, but a lot to do with Shrub's policies!!!

1. It sure does
It also has something to do with the fact that a man's wife outlives him, but his pension doesn't.

Social Security was always a program for widows, although it benefits both sexes while the husband is alive.

Then there are a few seniors who miss having someplace to go a few times a week, and work because they want to.

The fact that their numbers are increasing so quickly makes me think that more have to, though.

Of course, there is no inflation. Just keep repeating that as you find you can afford less for the same amount of money.

2. Many remember the Great Depression
Such an "oldster" is my mom, who was a little girl during the Depression, but it affected her profoundly. She still has a "depression" mentality....even tho she is financially secure, she continues to work full-time (She is an incredible 83 years old!), always afraid that "it" can all be taken away from her and she will have to suffer that indescribable poverty again. She also comes from a generation that believes you must be "productive," or you are a drag on society. I have no such beliefs, and can't wait for retirement, which absolutely drives her crazy!

3. You're right on the attitude, but I still think it has way too much to do
with seniors HAVING to work just to survive! They keep taking more and more out of SS for Medicare and if you sign up for part B, it's worse. My mother alo paid for a BCBS policy that was a Medicare supplimentsl policy. I don't know if they still have those, but it wasn't cheap either.

I hate to admit it, but I wonder if the only real solution is means testing for SS & Medicare. There sure are a lot of people who would NEVER need those options!

4. We could get rid of the tax cuts for the rich
And allow Medicare, the largest buyer of prescription drugs, to you know, NEGOTIATE PRICE and Medicare would basically be fine.
