Oh great...thanks to you guys, I'm now "crazy liberal!"
Just got back from my congressman's town hall meeting on social security in the liberal San Francisco Bay Area.

As expected, the crowd was at least 4-1 liberal, with exactly one vocal freeper type who was easily yelled down by the others.

However,...one gentleman (I'm thinking he might have been a DUer) lost even this very liberal crowd when he began shouting out at the assembled politicians to "get out of Iraq, and spend the money on Social Security!" He also interrupted them to yell that they should stand up to * and be more like Barbara Boxer, and said "What's wrong with you MEN?" It was funny, and my hubby and I laughed and applauded.

The rest of the crowd seemed offended and he almost got thrown out by security.

So, there you go...I'm now a crazy liberal nutcase, I guess. He made perfect sense to me. Both the hubby and I congratulated him on the way out.

1. Sounds like a good idea to me...
and I live in "red" Ohio. It would not even take 1 week worth of the money being spent in Iraq, to fix SS. And we could use the rest to start a WPA inspired push for manufacturing of renewable energy sources. "Crazy" is anything short of that.

5. I'll bet you made his day, congratulating him.
I have friends who were charged with trespassing for holding a prayer vigil outside Raytheon headquarters. Of course they got off with just community service (a "punishment" they loved, being seminary students). But it was such a frustrating experience to go through the court process. Raytheon made sure anyone sympathetic to civil disobedience was off the jury, to be sure. But after the women were sentenced, as they were leaving the courtroom, the stenographer caught them and said, "I loved what you did. I wish I was brave enough to do something like that!" My friends were gratified to hear that they had left a positive impression on someone in the courtroom.

As for blaming us for your radicality... I don't think that's fair. I'm sure you were radical before you met us! But then, what do I know? I hang around with civil disobedients! LOL!

Here's to us crazies! :toast:

And as far as blaming DU, I'm joking, of course. The only thing DU has done is make me a "better informed" crazy liberal.

15. You mean to tell me, that all that praying on the streets for
the 10 Commandments and all the other bullshit the fundies hit the street to pray for...if someone holds a pray meet for peace...it's bad?

17. Ya gotta love the double standard.
Actually, there were another 40-50 praying in the street. These ladies just walked into the Raytheon parking lot.

They negotiated with Raytheon before we ll went there, letting them know we were just going to have a peaceful protest with a non-violent civil disobedience action involving 4 women seminarians. But you should have seen the SWAT teams they had positioned on us peaceniks--like we were going to be bringing a few grenades with us, and lob them into the lobby or something. :eyes:

18. His points were perfectly valid.
He did have a very angry delivery, which was not appreciated by the crowd. Plus he was interrupting and screaming. Nevertheless, it was obvious that the points he wanted to make could not be made any other way. The congress people asked for questions in writing and were screening them. Something tells me they wouldn't have chosen his question to read aloud to the crowd.

21. Yelling down others
So yelling down others in a public forum is freedom of Speech?

23. Welcome to DU
And yes, in some instances, yelling is freedom of speech. In the case I was describing, a freeper (I'm sure you don't like freepers) was yelling down our elected representatives, who were trying to explain their position on *'s social security rip-off (which I'm also sure you disapprove of) and the crowd shouted him down. They wanted to hear the representatives. It was actually quite amusing to see an old 80 something year old dude yell down the forty something freeper. And yes, it was freedom of speech, since that was your original question. I'll look forward to reading more of your posts.
