about?

"Thompson Watchers"...what do you know about this relationship? How many times was he married and was Anita the "love of his life?" Did he write about her...I don't remember anything...but then my readings of him have been sketchy the last years...so I'm not up-to-date on this.

1. He wrote about her.
I know back in the 60's and 70's he was married to Sandy. As far as Anita I think she was his assistant before she was his wife. He has a son named Juan from his first marriage. I think he divorced Sandy in the 80's.

2. What does her age have to do with it?

5. Oh, please
What is it with these old goats and their young wives?

Thompson wasn't alone. Jerry Garcia picked one up, too.

And it's the favorite pastime of GOP luminaries, dumping the shabby old wife and kids in favor of newer, racier models every few years like they were cars or running shoes.

Other than that, nothing is important about her or her age.

8. On a side note,
a former boss who's still a friend married his second wife when he was 25 and she was 51, they're now 55 and 81. He actually left his young wife to marry a woman two months older than his mother!

9. What the fuck does Garcia have to do with it?
First, there wasn't that big a difference between his age and Deborah's. Second, he was unmarried for quite a few years when he married her. Don't try and lay that "dumping" shit on Garcia.

She was 44 when they married, he was 52 . . . hardly a huge difference. He'd also known Deborah since the early 70's.

First, don't try to attack Hunter's wife as being a gold digger when you know nothing about their relationship, and second, don't insult Jerry or Deborah by insulting them with non-factual accounts.

12. Were these young wives involuntarily compelled to marry the "old goats"?
There must be a reason, don't you think?

14. Read some of the feminist threads in here
Part of sexism in America. Maybe they want a quota system where for every 70 year old man married to a 32 year old woman, a 32 year old man must marry a 70 year old woman.

3. Pardon my bluntness...
... but why is it important for you to know more about the widow Thompson?

15. I know nothing about her...and wondered....
They've only been married for two years. Figured real "hard core" Thompson fans would know some background. Was it a long time relationship?

Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 09:52 PM by diamond14

she'll cash in a LOT better than 'gannon'...but it's the same game...

the whole mess SMELLS bad.....afterall, bush* good friend, Prince bandahar LIVES across the street from Hunter Thompson....and Thompson just turned up EVIDENCE that 911 was an 'inside' job....explosives collapsed the buildings....and just as he's ready to publish, BOOM, while his wife is on the phone and his son in the livingroom....

real strange stuff that DEFINITELY needs to be investigated.....

Hunter telephoned me on Feb. 19, the night before his death. He sounded scared. It wasn't always easy to understand what he said, particularly over the phone, he mumbled, yet when there was something he really wanted you to understand, you did. He'd been working on a story about the World Trade Center attacks and had stumbled across what he felt was hard evidence showing the towers had been brought down not by the airplanes that flew into them but by explosive charges set off in their foundations. Now he thought someone was out to stop him publishing it: “They're gonna make it look like suicide,” he said. “I know how these bastards think . . .”

6. No way. Hunter S. Thompson was alot of things but he was not...
stupid and vain enough to be duped by some hustler bimbo. I wish he had not taken his own life but, I truly believe he did. I do respect his choice. He left on his own terms.

7. Ummm..........
If you read the next paragraph, you'll see that the one you quote in your post is an imaginary one; it's how the author imagines a tribute to Thompson COULD have begun, based on his style of writing. It ain't true. Sometimes, people here have their tinfoil hats on just a little too tight.

11. What I want to know is
Why she said she didn't hear the gun on the phone.

Did she hang up before or what? I'm confused.
