To me America's moral death came during the days after the Tsunami.
During that period, the silence of the Bush administration and its measly initial contribution of $15 Million to one of the largest natural disasters in human history told me exactly how far we have traveled on the road to moral bankruptcy. In fact, in one of the posts I made after that disater, one DUer told me not to go overboard with my sympathies for the Tsunami victims because they might make "fodder" for Osama Bin Laden.

1. Hate to break this to you
but America's moral death came long before the Tsunami. Tabling the slavery issue as to not upset Southern planters comes to mind. But that's just me.

Flame away.

of providing major relief for victims of natural disasters. When that was not forthcoming, I realized we are a changed country now.

3. You Have Described the Moral State of Our GOVERNMENT
The government's initial contribution was dwarfed by what the people gave.
Never mind that it was right after Christmas, when everybody is tapped-out.
People gave, and gave a lot.
Many DU'ers among them, I'm sure.

5. I agree. I should have explicitly stated that our people, generous as ever
more than made up for the wretched attitude of the Bush ignoramuses who saw politics in this disaster.
