Publisher site, books of interest.....
as opposed to a person of interest.... it's interesting that the people doing the labelling of "people of interest" often are "people of interest themselves", in my mind anyway.

“America’s Disappeared is … strong, eloquent and necessary”
—Lewis H. Lapham, Editor, Harper’s Magazine

"To read America’s Disappeared is to be moved by the personal stories of human beings plucked out of our midst, tortured, kept away from family, from legal counsel, from the world. The essays in this collection not only confront us with the human reality of the detentions at Guantánamo and the tortures of Abu Ghraib. They also scrutinize and dissect the legal arguments of the government, as it tries to defend the indefensible. This volume informs us as it angers us, and provokes us to act in whatever way we can to bring democracy alive in our country."
—Howard Zinn

“Like a mixture of Tom Paine and Mark Twain, Crimmins mixes politics and humor with savage results.”—Michael Blowen, Boston Globe

Media criticism does exist in America. But by and large, it is not citizen-based criticism designed to make media a better source of information in a democracy. Instead, it is a cynical manipulation of the discourse designed to silence even the mildest dissent from the conservative, militantly pro-corporate dogma that has come to pass for news in an era when "reporters" brag about the size of their American-flag lapel pins."
—Robert McChesney and John Nichols
