The sort of nanotech virus bombs described is clearly in violation of int'l treaties. As for wide-area ion saturation technology, this is silly -- it violates the basic laws of physics and would require an energy source akin to an H-Bomb blast.

3. I doubt this.

Nano Tech is a incredibly complex field. While I'm certain it has definate military applications, I am also fairly certain that they are not up to the level required to militarily deploy any sort of nanological weaponry, unless you consider bio/chem weaponry nano weapons. If we do decide to 'have a adventure in Persia', then it will most likely be with SpecOps, Cruise Missles, and Bomber runs. Probably a series of quick limited strike of obvious and suspected target. Unless of course the admin decides it needs more oil, in which case roll out the draft and get ready for another occupation. I actually think it's not so much about the oil as much as it is about the 'reconstruction' contracts that provide so much wonderous lucre for private companies straight out of the taxpayers pockets.

7. Nanotechnology doesn't mean SHIT to a pissed-off populace

You can have flying robots the size of dragonflies squirting bio-agents all you want, but when you don't KNOW who the enemy is (because they are so prevalent and embedded), little expensive robots are fucking worthless.

I present: Iraq.

Just another excuse to use whiz-bang technology (with little civilian oversight) and money going by the truckload to military contractors.
