Contact the media about Ann Coulter's racist remark about Helen Thomas
From http://moveleft.com

Reporter Helen Thomas (left) and pundit Ann Coulter (right).

In a Feb. 23, 2005 essay at anncoulter.com ,Ann Coulter refers to Helen Thomas, as an "old Arab" who doesn't belong "within yards of the president."

Helen Thomas, who was born in 1920 in Kentucky to parents who were immigrants from Lebanon,
has been reporting on politics since 1943.

Note: The syndicator, Universal Press Syndicate (UExpress), cleaned up that racist remark instead of exposing Ann Coulter's racism here.

"Press passes can't be that hard to come by if the White House allows that dyspeptic, old Helen Thomas to sit within yards of the president."

Please contact the media. Choose 5 reporters from the DU list, and email them that you're offended that Ann Coulter called Helen Thomas an "old Arab."

10. I agree 100 percent ... if by hot you mean "beauty of the soul" ...
our physically attractive and mature (in a great way!) Helen Tomas is Gorgeous. Even in her golden years, Helen has proven her sharp wit and moral integrity. It's a testament to her good character and unflappable spirit that the worst the * Administration dare do is marginalize her. She is IMHO both Courage and Beauty personified. O8)

FoxNews is just a racist as she and so are a lot of its regular viewers. Ann Coulter and her Arabophobic nonsense fit in very nicely there.

And what's this about FoxNews not tainting itself? Where have you been? FoxNews is a shameless propaganda outlet for the neoconservatives and the Christian right. It can't be more tainted than it is now.

I agree with Mike. The only thing Coulter is good for is to hold her up an one of the most extreme examples of what is wrong with American journalism nowadays. The question isn't: What's wrong with Ann Coulter? but: What's wrong with American journalism that they continue to present this kind of know-nothing ranting as if it had some kind of intellectual legitimacy?

As far as Coulter herself is concerned, there's little to discuss. She uses invective in place of argument and employs an atrocious writing style devoid of any reason. Even when we couldn't disagree with them more, real journalists like Charles Krauthammer at least give their readers something to sink their teeth into and argue about. Krauthammer at least makes his reader think and structures his facts in recognizable logic. I also find Krauthammer to be very clear and straightforward, whereas Coulter usually jumps from point to point without showing how one connects to the other. Krauthammer can be refuted, but it takes a least a little bit of work.

How can anybody refute Coulter? Is it really worth pointing out that Hillary Clinton's mother doesn't wear army boots? Coulter never actually said that she does, but that is the kind of thing writes.

Interestingly, Coulter may be improving in this respect. In the column cited in which she makes disparaging remarks about Ms. Thomas' ethnic heritage, she also states:

Gannon didn't write about gays. No "hypocrisy" is being exposed. Liberals' hateful, frothing-at-the-mouth campaign against Gannon consists solely of their claim that he is gay.

At least that can be demonstrated to be false. Gannon did write about gays. He said "John Kerry may become our first gay president," without stating flatly that Kerry is, in fact, gay, simply assuming his reader would agree with him that this would not be a good thing. Gannon, while hiding his own homosexuality, wrote about homosexuality as something intrisically inferior. That's hypocrisy.

46. At the same time. it is important to expose what is wrong
It isn't that Ann Coulter's views are to the right of Attila the Hun. We strive to re-establish American democracy. Different views are welcome.

It's not even her anti-intellectualism, although that bothers me a lot more than her right wing views. Frankly, if a progressive columnist were to resort to that kind of name-calling and fact bending to make his point, I'd cringe at that, too.

What is really bad is not Ann Coulter herself. She's probably doing journalism the best way she knows how. That's very sad that think that she thinks this is how it is supposed to be done. No wonder she's defending Gannon. After all, she is guilty of many of the very same sins as he. Both of them make the mistake (as I suspect many at DU do, but from the other end) that what makes one a good journalist is ideological purity.

No, the problem is the MSM. What is really wrong is the way Ms. Coulter is used by the MSM. Just as I don't think she's worth my time listening to her invectives and rantings, I wish the MSM would stop forcing her on the public and present something more thought-provoking. Since the MSM needs more balance, seeing less of Ann Coulter and more of a liberal intellectual (preferably a witty and interesting one) would be a good place to start. Beyond that, it really doesn't have to be a liberal commentator who replaces Coulter and other know-nothings like Hannity and O'Reilly; I'll settle for intelligent discussion.

51. agreed. "Ms. Coulter is used by the MSM"
and we need to exposes her nonsense and the M$MW culpability. hopefully if we do it often enough (daily) we will impact the bottom line by driving folks away from the M$MW.

that is the ONLY way we will get their attention by affecting their bottom line and to do that we must reveal them in a clear concise and undeniable way which is actually already happening thanks to the INTERNET AND there over the top bias since 911.

if our M$MW were actually concerned about being objective i would agree that we don't need a liberal to replace any of these whores but in todays ideological driven market place we need liberals, albeit intelligent and witty ones, and we need PLENTY of'em, too.

good to see ya JR :hi:

WH reporter of all time IMO. I'm sure there are a great deal of pissed off reporters right now over that remark and I have every intention of making sure they all know about Coulter. However, I'm pretty sure THAT particular comment did NOT go unnoticed by EVERY reporter within earshot and I'm sure they are all chomping at the bit right now, calling each other on the phone, and condemning Coulter for her remark. All EXCEPT FAUX news and all those OTHER ignorant, racist, delusional, reporters out there on a mission to rule the world, that is. Helen is a Goddess among real reporters though and I have no doubt, that remark will not go unpunished by REAL reporters.

Coulter just outed herself as a HUGE target! Reminds me a bit of Gannon's "question's" at a WH press briefing. She is screwed!

As we all know, the main stream media is 'liberal', therefore, I would hope that you would approach the comments made by the vitriolic, hateful Ann Coulter towards Helen Thomas, a bastion of responsible journalism with the same gusto with which Ms. Coulter attacked Ms. Thomas.

Ms. Coulter has made a career out of irresponsible, bigoted statements, but she has most assuredly crossed the line with her remarks about Helen Thomas. Ms. Coulter deserves nothing less than the absolute scorn and ridicule of the main stream media and as the MSM is apparently left leaning, I would appreciate your excoriation of her.

Her Syndicate Runs Edited Version of Ann Coulter Column

By E&P Staff

Published: February 27, 2005 2:00 PM ET

NEW YORK Ann Coulter, no stanger to controversy, stirred the pot some more this past week, when she took up the subject of the still-simmering story of ex-White House reporter James Guckert, better known as Jeff Gannon, formerly of Talon News.

Writing in her February 23 column for Universal Press Syndicate, Coulter observed, among other things, that Guckert/Gannon was a better reporter than The New York Times' Maureen Dowd and his "only offense is that he may be gay." Nothing unexpected there, but Coulter also wrote: "Press passes can't be that hard to come by if the White House allows that old Arab Helen Thomas to sit within yards of the president."

But when the column got posted by by Universal on its Web site, that line was changed to: "Press passes can't be that hard to come by if the White House allows that dyspeptic, old Helen Thomas to sit within yards of the president."
