Ithacans Leaving For Canada

These are friends of mine and sad to see them going. These are great people who have tried everything to stop the war machine and are not only thoroughly disgusted with our government but rather discouraged at the complacency of many who, in words, don't support this administration. Mostly they are concerned for the physical and psychological well being of their children as they see our culture completely immersed in violence.
They have petitioned, vigiled, gone to all the rallies (organizing several in our area), been involved in civil disobedience and feel it is time to depart. I wish them well.

ITHACANS LEAVING FOR CANADA: "It's a heart-breaker. We love Ithaca," says
Katie Quinn-Jacobs. She & husband bought a farm 11/19. They have three
boys, oldest 15, & are not waiting for the military draft to take them.
"We enrolled voters, wrote letters, went to demonstrations & vigils, but
now foresee things getting worse."
---They intend to start a model eco-homestead. They find Canadians more
open to diverse views, & more aware of what's happening here than Americans
are. "The horse is more aware of the rider than the rider the horse," says
Dave Quinn-Jacobs. And they know others here who may move with them.

They have been trying for years. They are out in the streets with signs every week no matter how cold. This for the last two years straight. They will be missed.

I was in Ottawa last week and loved the place and the people. I'm thinking about moving myself.

5. Sad

I have my own reasons for staying right here, but I can understand wanting to leave. Thomas Mann wasn't Jewish, but he felt he couldn't live in Nazi Germany.

6. I disagree, that might have been true before bush

but no longer applies. Canadians have now seen through the veil, as it were, and are strengthening their differences rather than merging as may have been the case previously.

Canadians see the 'bush America' as an anathema to what we want our country to be. I must give bush credit for showing us what we do NOT want and forcing us to stand up for what WE believe versus the 'old' Canada as the 'go along to get along' philosophy that permeated our thinking. As usual, bush truly is a uniter but not in the faux way he would like.

7. As as populace, yes, we may be a bit more skeptical (sp?)......

but we are owned by our owners as well, who know the bigger owners. And that's corporations and back door deals. Our vast natural resources and small population and pocketed politicians don't make me sleep well at night at times.
