Poll question: Should we pay for corporate america's ID thievery wrongdoings?!
Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 06:18 PM by HypnoToad
All these new incidents of ID and data theft.

Now banks are selling insurance.

Why should I pay god-knows-how-much because these fuckers are incapable of fulfilling their promise OBLIGATION to ensure it remains secure?

When you go to a bank and ask them if it's going to be secure they all say the same basic thing:

Absolutely. Our IT guys know that if there's one mistake, they're gone.

Oh, Microsoft is also responsible. They make the product. They wanted to be #1. With power comes responsibility. This is the system they made. They better well pay for it. I'm not guilty of jack shit. Nor are the rest of us. (unless you work for them, in which case don't get mad at me - or anyone who's had ID theft: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/02/25/eveningnews/consumer/main676597.shtml )

BTW: I work in IT and I make damn sure I don't screw up with data. That's why I also run around saying that IT workers deserve every damn penny they get.

4. fixing ID theft is incredibly time-consuming.
ID theft is so rampant, it's going to reach the point where a credit report will be useless information, since so many people have had their credit stolen.

2. Now we know why "tort deform" is so urgent
This isn't about all those people dead from Vioxx. It's about all those people out there who are having huge bills run up in their names through corporate incompetence and malfeasance.
