National Call In Day re the Congressional Budget Resolution

The House and Senate Budget Committees will begin drafting their budget resolutions early next week. It is critical that concerned constituents weigh in this week and next with their Senators and Representative with the message that the congressional budget resolution must not contain the same misplaced priorities included in the President’s budget. We need to tell our Senators and Representatives that we are counting on them to maintain services to women, children, and the elderly; keep our communities strong; support evenhanded budget rules that don't favor tax cuts over meeting our commitments; and accomplish deficit reduction in a fair manner.

Call your members of Congress on March 2nd and March 8th and urge them reject unfair budget cuts and rules!

**National advocacy groups have added a second call-in day, March 2nd, to the one originally planned for the week of Budget Committee consideration of the budget resolutions, March 8th, in order to ensure that concerned constituents are making their voices heard during this critical week of negotiations on the budget.

Tell your members of Congress:

• - Don’t make deep cuts in mandatory programs: We are deeply concerned about cuts to programs like Medicaid, child care, food stamps, and other programs that would increase the number of women and their families without access to health care, affordable child care, or adequate nutrition.
  
  
• - Don’t make deep cuts in domestic discretionary programs: These cuts would result in a significant loss of support for education, job training and vocational education, housing and energy assistance, medical research, family planning, law enforcement, environmental protection, and other important services that affect millions of people.
  
  
• - Don’t make harmful and unfair changes in budget rules: Budget rules that would force deeper and deeper cuts in programs that provide essential supports for millions of Americans – while doing nothing to restrain costly tax cuts that are the main cause of growing deficits – are unfair and fiscally irresponsible.
  
  
• - Deficit reduction must be fair: We support deficit reduction, but only if it is fair and takes into consideration the current and future well-being of all Americans, not just a privileged few.

When you call:

• - Tell the person with whom you are speaking that you would like to leave a message for the Senator or Representative. Close with a specific “ask” of the member of Congress, such as:
