This Dean supporter will welcome Gen. Clark into race
The buildup Gen. Clark will get will be amazing. He will (like Dean was) be the press darling for a while. That is fine--and expected. Clark seems to me to be a interesting man and someone I could easily support should he win the nomination. It is easier for me to support him than some of the others (though I would) because Clark was against the war. Also, unlike on DU among Clark and Dean supporters, Clark and Dean appear to have a good relationship which I hope will carry on through-out the campaign (and maybe afterward, I could easily see a Dean/Clark or Clark/Dean ticket).

But the bottomline for this Dean supporter is this--if Dean can overcome this challenge and still win the nomination he will truly have been proven battle tested and ready to take on George Worthless Bush.

An easy fight for the nomination is no way to go--if you really want to see what your candidate has it is how he/she will overcome obstacles and Gen. Clark is a formidible obstacle for Dean and the other candidates.

So, if it happens I say, Welcome General Clark.

1. Great post
This Clark supporter will throw all my energy into whoever is the nominee and I agree I think Clark will inspire some great dialouge all of it against the *. If Clark gets in and Dean defeats him for the nominee you are right it will make Dean all that much more attractive.

The more press time any of our candidates get bashing Bush, the better it is for the Dems in taking back this country. That is the ultimate goal. I like Dean, but if Dean doesn't get the nomination I will fight just as hard for our candidate regardless of who it is.

So far I like Clark but I do not know enough about specific policy proposals from him. The only big negative I see with him is his involvement in Bosnia/Kosovo. I was in the minority of people who opposed that war and the means by which we fought it. It will be a hard pill for me to swallow to support the General in charge of a war I opposed, but I can do it if it means getting rid of Bush.

4. I with you.
I've read some of his positions now anyway. I wish I knew a lot more, which is one reason that it's unfortunate that he is waiting so long to get into the race.

I pretty much committed to Dean early on, and have given him enough money that it's hard for me to bail on him now. However, I could definitely accept a Dean/Clark or Clark/Dean ticket, as long as it was clear that Clark supported the vast majority of the Dean program.

Clark definitely beats Dean in the 'camera-friendly' dept. Dean was a bit disappointing to me during the last debate in that regard. It doesn't affect my vote, but there are a lot of people who vote based almost entirely on looks, camera-presence, etc.

Clark also has the edge in Defense/Security.

Thank you for posting this CMT. I am in complete agreement with you. And, like you, I wish the relationships between the Deanbots and the Clarkbots were less sour.

6. LOL! Nice Typo ("kook-aid")
:D

I love Dean and have never bashed him. I am a little concerned about the reports of the "Clark as VP" leak being a "dirty trick" by the Dean camp, but I'm not going to believe that unless a lot more credible info comes out.

7. I was just reading an article about Wesley Clark while I was in
the sauna. It was in the "Washington Monthly" by AMy Sullivan and was glowing in no uncertain terms.

I hope he does enter the race, too!

No matter what happens we're gonna get bush outta there.

8. Right on...
Dean and Clark are basically saying much of the same things. Dean's my guy, but having Clark in with all the press attention is like plugging the guitar into the amp. The song is good, but it'll no longer be "unplugged." More feet will start tapping suddenly and more people will start dancing. Yes! May the best man win. Frankly I think the winner will be the one that says flat out on national tv... "the current adminsitration, is radical, lunatic, criminal and insane," and then says it over and over and over again. How do you respond to that when the General and the Governor are saying it in unison.

9. The General is looking pretty damn good
I really believe we have to have a candidate who was against this war, because eventually the lies are all going to come out and we will be in a strong position if our candidate was against it from the get-go. Supreme NATO Commander General Wesley Clark could have the gravitas to tell the American people why this war was a huge mistake based on lies, and as a General and NATO commander he could help get us out of this mess. I think the UN would welcome him with open arms and we could finally get the help we need to fix Iraq.

10. Yes, it will be great!
We are already lucky enough to have a number of high-quality candidates. The Republicans have...Bush. I think Dean helped raise the bar by growing a large grassroots campaign, and showing it won't hurt to disagree strongly with Bush, and his war. I'm looking forward to seeing what Clark will bring to the race. He obviously has a lot of knowledge concerning military matters. A Clark/Dean or Dean/Clark ticket has got to be Rove's worst nightmare. Even a Kerry/Edwards ticket, for that matter. The chickenhawks have shown they don't have the damndest clue about anything, except how to lift our money out of the treasury.
