I Cannot Get the BBC news today!
I'm not a tinfoil hatter, but for some reason for the first time ever, the BBC news is not on either of our two PBS stations.

I turned on CNN and they are dismissing as "ridiculous" the claims that the US military was trying to kill the Italian journalist who was rescued.

They had someone on from the Heritage Foundation on CNN (no big shock there).

1. This is a waste of time
It is Europeans who need to be convinced of U.S. bona fides.

Continuing to proclaim the goodness and heroism of "the troops" to a domestic audience is called "preaching to the choir."

5. Right-wing CNN will make this claim. However, the real harm is
that there is no bridge here. They intend to fuel the Italian anger until we lose another ally. Rather than sit back and wait, they will jump out like Right-Wing Pundit Imus did this morning and use defamatory language to describe the journalist and agents of the Italian government.

8. He's not the only one
Get this:

"Edward Luttwak, an American military commentator interviewed yesterday in La Repubblica, said Mr Calipari's death was "the sort of thing that happens all the time in a war", and he advised Italy to "take an aspirin and go to bed, you'll feel better in the morning". But for many Italians the secret agent's death exposed a gulf of mistrust and loathing."

Slightly condescending, no?

10. We cannot exist in a vacuum. We rely on the good will of others.
I understand that all sorts of things happen in war. But do we need to be so arrogant about it? Do we need to shout from the roof tops that we are the chosen, don't question us.

There are many things that happen in war. We need to be more sensitive.

7. I'm watching the BBC World News now...
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 06:23 PM by Spider Jerusalem
and they touched on the claims that the US executed a deliberate hit in order to stop the Italians negotiating with terrorists, while noting that there are many who disagree (but even despite the disagreement that this is likely to create a rift between the US and Italy).

Oh, and BBC had some wanker from the Heritage Foundation on talking about Bolton's appointment to the UN, too. They must be making the rounds today.
