Poll question: Have you been swayed to support a new Dem presidential candidate?

Have any of you swung from one favorite Democractic presidential candidate to another? If so, vote for what it was that persuaded you to switch

1. I switched from Dean to Kucinich...

...because of Dean's position of wanting to stay in Iraq.

Also, I was later attracted to Kucinich's very pro-labor, anti-NAFTA stance.

5. The way I see it is....

Dean never wanted to go after Saddam and attack Iraq. He wanted the inspectors to do their job and suggested a 60 day waiting period too..

Now that we have pulverized their culture, we will have to accept responsibility to clean it up. He want the UN to be the major reconstruction force.

NAFTA is an old cluster-fuck.....He suggests to upgrade the standards of labor and human rights of foreign workers to that of union standards. That would bring back many of the outsourced US companies and reduce cheap foreign products being bought by the US. NAFTA is not my strongest area....:)

I am not sure what got me to change. I dont know really, I am glad I switched though because me and Kucinich are identical on the issues and above all we have a bit in common plus I think he makes a lot of sense.

But I understand others' trepidations about whether Kucinich is electable.

7. Who should be my candidate?

Even if I'm a european and not able to vote for any american presidental candidates at all, I'm still interested in those who might become the next american president. After all, it matters to the whole world, not just the american public. If I was allowed to vote, who would be my pick? I'm looking for someone interested in economic liberties, as well as personal ones. I don't see any collision between gay rights and low taxes, for example. On the other hand, with the highest poverty rate in the western world, I believe that America has some priorities to change. I'm looking for a true internationalist able to bring people together, within America and across the whole world. So, who should be my candidate?

15. Anything but Bush?

My primary concern when it comes to Dean is the fact that he might to too left-wing to attract the majority of americans. On the other hand, it might no longer be true that in order to win an election you have to stay in the center. I suppose Bush is a good example, even if he did his best trying to look compassionate when he got elected. One of the difficulties I've had with some liberals in America is that pro-union often seem to mean that you are against free trade. In Sweden the unions rarely see such a conflict.

American corporations are sending jobs overseas that used to belong to American union members.

Do Swedish manufacturing companies do the same? I've often wondered how that works...

Yes, that might be the case for some particular industries. That has happened in the swedish textile industry, for example. Jobs have moved to neighbouring eastern european countries, which has lead to a record growth rate in these countries. A good example is Lithuanian. Their industry grew by more than 12% during the first 6 months this year. That has lead to better living conditions for people in these countries, thus improving the stability of the whole region. Yes, some swedes lost their jobs, but it hasn't affected the unemployment. I don't see that protectionism would have been a better alternative.

Can anyone who has read Deans information or listen to his speeches REALLY believe he is too liberal? We are having moderate Republicans and Libertarians show up at our Dean meetings.

20. Since I am up late night early morning....

I think I was not clear.....what I meant by I am laughing with Limbaugh...is that it seems people are like wheat in the wind, we ebb and flow with the BS we are fed, Dean is too far left, Dean is too far right, Dean can't attract the minority. Hey has anyone thought of the point that there are two black candidates right now, and Carol Mosely Braun is enough to make anyone proud.....to be her lovely color and have such a bright female candidate.

10. I disagree - its Kucinich

For one thing, he wants to really make inroads in dismantling the massive military industrial complex, which the U.S. wastes huge $ on, often with very little accountability.

This will free up all kinds of money for social programs.

Also, as I understand it, he wants to do away with NAFTA, which will bring back union-backing manufacturing jobs which used to be an option to those without a college education. Currently, those Americans are barely getting by working 2-3 service industry jobs like restaurants and retail chains.

14. Looks like most people are not swayed much

I wonder if it's worth the effort for some people to try to sway others. I want Kucinich to win, but I have my hat off to Dean as well, even although he's way more conservative than Dennis. I like his combative style, as I also like Dennis's.

One of Dennis's people called me yesterday asking for more money and I told them the $50 I sent already was $50 more than I've ever given to any political candidate and I couldn't even really afford that. But getting $50 from me is about as grass-roots as one can get, so kudos to Dennis for reaching someone like me.
