The "Liberal" media does it again!!!!
(Remember when all the media whores covered that Ten Commandments flap in Alabama for days with just 50 or a little more protesters? Then WE try to get OUR voices heard with over FIVE HUNDRED protesters, and not a peep from the Bu$h media whores. It's enough to make you puke buckets.) :puke: :puke: :puke:

PS.... I copied this from another group. Good information IMHO.

This was the first article written by Miami Herald political reporter, Peter Wallsten. He revised/changed
his second Herald report later.

For your information, we had at least 300 protestors beginning at 4:00 PM and more than 500+ protestors
by 5:30-6:30 PM. Also folks, we were situated "Front and Center", right in front of the Pier 66 Hotel fundraiser, alongside the news media. And the local and National news media could not help
but notice us or hear our unified and 'very vocal' voices at the Protest!

Folks, this was indeed a South Florida Protest. We had folks from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach and further up the coast. We had at least 2-3 busloads of protestors who came from the West Palm Beach area. And all ages were represented from our Young Democrats clubs to our Senior Citizens.
I spoke with 3 folks who were wheel-chair bound and looked to be quite physically fragile, but they told me
that it was important for them to be at the Protest to speak out for the elderly and sick.

There were also many, many military families (like myself) and Veterans who came out
to protest Bush. There are 2 pictures below of the protestors. They include but a fraction, of the Protestors who protested Bush. Some of the areas in which the Protestors stood, were 5-6 lanes deep.

Protesters Greet Bush in Fort Lauderdale
by Peter Wallsten

Broward's Democratic political activists used Bush's Fort Lauderdale visit
as a forum to criticize the war in Iraq and to organize support for Democratic presidential candidates.

Air Force One landed at Ft. Lauderdale Jet Center at 4:00 pm, and Bush was whisked
to the Hyatt Pier 66 hotel for a 5:30 p.m. reception.

An estimated 400+ protesters crowded 17th Street opposite the hotel, lining the sidewalk
in front of a nearby Hess gas station and chanting slogans such as:
"1-2-3-4, Bush and Cheney OUT the door!''

Ft. Lauderdale police, including officers on horseback and in boats in nearby canals,
kept a tight rein on the crowd, which grew throughout the afternoon as people finished work
for the day.

Beginning at about 4:00 p.m., the Protest attracted a broad spectrum of Democrats,
supporting a variety of candidates and causes.

Many hearkened back to the 2000 presidential election and Florida's pivotal role in the recount with signs like ''Commander-in-Thief.'' Others referenced the ongoing California recall
of Gov. Gray Davis with signs like "Recall Bush.''

The main purpose of Bush's visit was fundraising.

The president's brother, Gov. Jeb Bush, declared Florida ''Bush country''. JEB]

''Imagine what the world would be like had my brother not been elected three years ago,''
Jeb Bush said.

Bush's request that Congress allocate another $87 billion to military and rebuilding projects
for Iraq isn't as well received. It inspired Ft. Lauderdale protester Martha Krocoffer's sign:
"$87 billion for Iraq, how much for kid's schools?''

Florida Sen. Bob Graham, one of nine Democrats running to challenge Bush next year,
used a conference call with reporters today to chastise the president for his education agenda, contrasting the money spent on schooling with the $87 billion plan Bush has to rebuild Iraq.

''If the president can do that, he ought to have a greater sense of responsibility to schools
right here in the United States of America,'' Graham said.

STEAMY DAY: A mounted policeman keeps a careful watch over "hundreds of Protesters" outside the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 in Ft. Lauderdale during Bush's visit Tuesday.

THE DISSING DISSIDENTS: Protesters outside the Pier 66 were less than hospitable toward Bush.

1. Not our friends.
The media are corporations, rightwing corporations, in it for the power and wealth. They will not be on our side or report straight news until they have new ownership. Why don't some wealthy liberals buy some media outlets?

3. Police
Seems like every story about a non-religious (i.e., right wing) protest talks about how the police watched the crowd carefully. The implication being that if the crowd is a left or even anti-right crowd, then surely if the police weren't there to keep everyone in line, they'd get violent.

4. I'm in a training class at work today...we had a group exercise where
we had to talk about something we cared deeply about. I talked about the media and how we are losing the backbone of our democracy. I talked about how a month or so ago, all day long the media talked about how John F. Kennedy had an affair 40 years ago. I mentioned, too, how a few weeks ago I woke up to an author on the Today show blaming Clinton for 911 and I went to bed hearing another author on CNN doing the same thing.

We hear this kind of irrelevant tripe while the thieves are looting our democracy installing electronic voting machines and recalling governors in coveted states.

One of two people I talked with remarked "look at you" as I teared up talking about this.

I'm grateful to have DU so that we can at least vent about it. It's going to take a long time to change things because it took so very long to get to the point we are at today.

5. Actually, that protest could have been a good thing...
....That whole flap could have been a big problem for Bush. They were angry at Bush and Ashcroft for not interceding in their behalf. Of course, the media hardly mentioned THAT at all.

There's been several articles where the leader of the protest was saying "We're calling upon George Bush to make a statement about this."

That's Bush's base: the Religious Right. If they turn against him - he is in BIG trouble. That's how his father lost.
