The new meme is that the media is over-stating how bad things are in Iraq. In fact, they say, that everything is fine in Baghdad. People are shopping again, and they're happy that the U.S. is there. Life is relatively normal.

My retort is: Saigon was also a normal, peaceful city in the early 60s.

3. I've Heard It Three Times In The Past Two Weeks

Congressman Harold Ford was on Bill Maher's show and said it. Bill Krystol also said it on Maher's show, and another Republican congressman also said it.

2. Well, of course

Everyone needs to shop, especially when they don't have anything left, you know. Sheesh, some people. I mean, sure they didn't come out for a while, but thats only because they had fewer mouths to feed, groceries last a LOT longer.
Everyone loves US soldiers on their street corners. Sort of like certian soldiers in Denmark awhile back. They just give you that feeling of, security and purpose that un-uniformed men and women just cant do.
