CA Recall may be halted by Federal Court Ruling
Federal appeals panel hears arguments for halting recall
Legal challenge echoes 'hanging chads'PASADENA, California (AP) -- A three-member federal appeals court panel, clearly troubled by the prospect that some 40,000 voters might be disenfranchised by the use of punch-card ballots in the recall election, challenged lawyers Thursday to explain why the election should be allowed.

The legal challenge echoes problems with "hanging chads" in Florida during the 2000 presidential election.

Sounds good to me :)

1. If this election is halted
because of "hanging chads" it will just add fuel to the fire for demanding that electronic voting machines be quickly installed in all precincts. The evil manufacturers must be salivating over this one. Personally, I would like to see the recall stopped, but this is not the way and would only postpone it until machines could quickly be put in place and I bet that would happen overnight.

:argh:

2. On the other hand
stories are already beginning to appear in the mainstream press regarding the problems with Diebold et al machines. If the recall is stopped due to a mechanical problem issue, it could spill over into the touch-screen machines as well, raising the general awareness that we have BIG problems in this country with the veracity of our election results.

The repigs will of course set up a straw man in an attempt to get their Diebold stuff in place, ie: "we got rid of the chads - now you're complaining about the touch screens - nothing will make you happy - shut up and let us steal another election or two." The response should be that you don't use a hammer to do a job that requires a saw...and switching to a pair of pliers isn't an answer - you still need a saw.
